The Bird is Freed

There was always going to be pushback after the finalization of the deal.

I liken this to the 'insurance policy' instituted against Trump if he won the 2016 election.

When the dust settles Twitter will be a massive money maker and Musk will have saved free speech for all of mankind.

Twitter may go under... But I do hope musk takes everyone down with it now that he presumably has the evidence

Twitter going under wouldn't be the worst thing. That place is handy, but it's a sewer, and it just creates hatred between parties imo

If only Twitter had a system in place where they could immediately show users if the account in question was actually the real entity. Maybe a process where Twitter verifies the account for us…

Obviously this has been a stunt verified people have pulled for years to make a joke, so it’s a bit ridiculous for people to do it now to make a cheap point. However, I think it’s obvious that Twitter will need to have a process in place to make sure $8 isn’t the price of admission to do the same. At least under the current system you have to leverage your position as a semi-famous person to nuke your own account.

So what is the solution going to be to keep companies happy on Twitter? I’m guessing they almost have to take anybody shelling out the $8 and lock them into their actual, verified identity, right? Then make changing their identity a process that Twitter itself approves?

I don't know what the right path forward is. I think Twitter had a path to making money. Jack Dorsey knew that path. Dorsey also knew it was never going to be massively profitable. THey weren't gonna be Meta or Google. ANyone with a brain could see that. Musk for some reason thought he could make back what he spent but it wasn't possible. Not in any reasonable fashion.

Twitter's path forward was to get leaner and get better at selling it's ad potential.

That seems relatively bad. Are we sure Elon is any good at this?

I like Elon. I think he could run Twitter successfully in a vacuum (subscription model isn’t a bad idea). But the larger issue is that Twitter had to take in a massive amount of debt to complete the purchase, which is clearly dictating these desperation cash grabs.

Elon is a smart guy who is good at recruiting the right people. But I honestly think he thought he could get his fellow Cryptofan Dorsey to join him.

And there's an easy fix to the Twitter Blue vs. Verified, make a totally different logo. Have the person have a little blue bird attached to their profile instead of a blue checkmark.

Twitter did basically this a couple days ago just for Elon to announce yesterday that he personally scrapped it.

Seriously, what the heck is happening today with Twitter? This is far more dysfunctional than I anticipated.

a couple banks i used to work for are on the hook for a ton of money loaned to Elon to finance his purchase of twitter...am i wrong to take joy in this
