defense was so good last year..has made a difference so far this year. what can be done to sure it up?

Hard to say. The OF problem has clearly been Ender. Last year he was still a plus CFer and this year he was mearly average. Now he's not even playing. That has had a ripple effect on the rest of them out there.

The infield defense has just regressed all the way around. UZR has Albies as the highest rated defender at a whopping +0.1 so far.


The difference between the Braves defense this year and last year has been about a 1.5 WAR swing which is only going to get worse if things continue.

Fangraphs has Swanson's def value at -1.0. The improved hitting is great, but no excuse for the defense to be falling off.

Yeah he killed the ball in May. So far he's been about what I'd expect...Adam Dunn level player. Nats need to hope the DH comes soon.

Right now that's a resounding yes. But going forward that's going to depend on where Riley's offense settles in at. Also would depend if Ender can return as the same player as right now he's replacement level.

Riley at an 1.100 OPS makes up for just about any amount of MLB-quality poor defense.

Riley at a .750 OPS (where his current peripherals suggest he will settle) probably isn't an MLB regular without above average defensive contributions.

He will play 3B next year, so not a problem and not have to worry about his defense in left field.

I think he can carry a .800 to .900 when he learns the league and how they adjust to him and he readjust if we have a decent batting coach which I think we do.

He is really young and teachable.
