The Braves have signed left-hander Josh Outman

I expect his control to rebound under McDowell's watch from the aberration that was last year... Not to mention the added bonus that Outman only has 4 years of MLB service time so if he does well in 2015, we can control him via arbitration through 2016-- or use him as a trade chip again come next winter.

Good catch and good points, I totally missed that till you pointed it out. I suppose because it seems he's been in the Majors longer.

I hope this means there is a trade already in place for him a la Varvaro. I wouldn't agree at all with just dumping Pastornicky for nothing.

Would be great to get something for him, but I'd guess he'll pass through waivers and we may just be able to assign him to AAA.

I would guess he's claimed or elects free agency a la Pena should he pass through waivers (more likely claimed IMO). Again, I am hoping this is just like Varvaro where we basically have a deal in place. It seems the DFA won't happen till tomorrow so may be a few days before we know, if not longer.

PS: Jaime and Constanza continue to survive the 40-man roster crunch...

At this point in his career, Pastornicky needs to opt out for free agency if he's not traded. Too many younger guys coming along who do what he does/did.

I would be surprised if he didn't in that case, esp. since he seemed to feel he deserved more of a shot with us in the past.

Good signing with Outman.

Dont care if Pastor is cut, with some of the guys they got in a trade, he's as good as gone.

Not much to not like about signing Outman. Very effective loogy, something we sorely lacked, and for only $975M guaranteed. We also control him for 2016 if we so choose. Nice pickup.

The 5 locks for the pen now are Kimbrel, Johnson, Grilli, Russell and Outman. If Hale isn't the 5th starter, he would make the 6th and leave only one spot open with a bunch of guys as possibilities.

If Simmons, Viz and Kohn all show well in camp we might see someone like Russell traded sooner rather than later. Avilan seems as good as gone too and maybe soon along with Pastornicky. Possibly in the same trade.

Smart move by Hart to give Outman what he thinks is an option but won't ever get picked up since Fredi is excited about the prospect of abusing his arm.

$975M guaranteed? Holy crap, that's a lot of money!

Sorry, I couldn't resist. :happy0157:

Good signing. I'm fine with it and really all the other moves - but, man oh man, this is going to be a different team this year. How much roster turn over will we have over the start of last season? 60%?
