Ontario hit 70% vaccination rate in September. So her anecdotal experience isn't terribly far off from a random sample of the public at large. Considering the most medically fragile who are most prone to having to go to the ER with medical conditions got the vaccine first, you're probably right on what would be expected.

I understand you support mandating young people to do what you want, but can you at least be honest about what it is?

The players (like your buddy) are lucky to live and work in a country where they are free to make choices like this to do something different with their lives.
 
I know the vaccine companies have the ability to avoid litigation, but do employers by mandating the vaccine, open themselves up for litigation if the vaccine has long term issues?

Of course it's coercion. Coercion is part of employment.

Your employer wants you to arrive on time and will fire you if you're late. You're being coerced to get up early.

Your employer thinks you should adhere to a dress code or you'll be fired. You're being coerced to dress a certain way.

Your employer thinks your hair should be kept trimmed or you'll be fired. You're being coerced to get a haircut.

Your employer hires you for a job that will require you to go to countries where there are certain diseases. As part of this job your employer requires you to be vaccinated. You're being coerced to get a vaccination.

I don't see any reason why a private employer can't mandate you take a shot as a condition of employment. It's really their call. You can disagree as to how necessary the condition is but the employer can do what they want.

None of those examples you listed include physically injecting something you don't want into your body. None of those examples include you being mandated to purchase another company's product.

I'd imagine my employer cannot legally mandate that I eat 10 cheeseburgers everyday or get fired.

I'm supportive of private companies being able to do what they want... but the left isn't. The left insists they bake the cake. The left insists they can't discriminate. Except... when the left wants them to (no vaccine = no service)

Also - a private company mandating it is one thing (that I think is awful but legally defensible)... the government mandating private employers mandating it is a whole nother issue

That to me is a large downside.
 
Swedens excess mortality substantially better than Europe and America's.

Only Norway and Denmark compare favorably to Sweden.

First, my last analogy is literally requiring someone to inject something into their body that is a product purchased from another company.

Second, an employer could absolutely mandate you eat 10 cheeseburgers a day. You can be fired for any reason or no reason, so long as it's not a impermissible reason under federal or state law. If you're kosher and the cheeseburgers aren't job related there might be a religious discrimination issue. Otherwise they can absolutely fire you. It's at will employment.

Whether an employer mandating the vaccine or not is smart is a different question. There are arguments for and against. But the idea that coercion by am employer is evil is just off base.

I think you're drastically overestimating vaccine related deaths. I've known several healthy people under 40 myself who have died of Covid. I've not known a single person who has had anything more severe than feeling under the weather from the vaccine.

I'll grant you we need to be increasingly cautious rolling it out to younger and younger people as risk associated with Covid decreases and so the cost-benefit analysis changes. But ultimately I see no evidence as of now supporting more young people are going to die from the vaccine. The opposite in fact.
