The Coronavirus, not the beer

“We’re signing a health-care plan within two weeks, a full and complete health-care plan,” Trump pledged in a July 19 interview with “Fox News Sunday” anchor Chris Wallace.

There are a few hours left for very poorly chosen one to make good on his promise.

hooray for the space guys.
Having said that and hope it is the last of the USA USA chants for a few days

Getting back on topic, yeah, lets let the insurance/medical industry have their way. Nothing like taking a bad situation and adding gasoline

A study done at Harvard University indicates that this is the biggest cause of bankruptcy, representing 62%
of all personal bankruptcies. One of the interesting caveats of this study shows that 78% of filers had some
form of health insurance
, thus bucking the myth that medical bills affect only the uninsured.

So how much came from existing NASA tech and research? Remind me how much of their revenue comes from contracts with NASA?

But the government's estimate of 12 years and $26B factored in the NASA tech and research,

Private sector whooped it. Why this surprises you, I have no idea

Well I'd rather do nothing than do M4A. Most times New government policies make things worse, not better

But for policy? Eliminate all government subsidies. No Medicare or medicaid. Open up the private sector. Allow companies to compete for customers... similar to how life and carninsurance works.

Let people who don't wish to have health insurance choose not to have it.

Your solution to everything is always bigger government. My solution is.always as little government as possible.

Those without insurance still end up costing us annually roughly 35 billion dollars.

I think a good compromise at least in the short term would be to allow universal healthcare for all children under 18, those 65 or older, and those with qualifying disabilities

So which has contributed more to the recent spread of COVID-19 in the United States: LW behavior under the banner of Wokeness/BLM or RW behavior under the banner of Folk Libertarianism. Or will the purists claim blamelessness for their side.

bump from June 25

I blame a lack of leadership from the top. Thats traditionally how these things work. Republicans will all of a sudden agree on January 21st 2021.

Hawaii is not alone. There are several counties in the country with very strict mask guidelines where cases are spreading

Enough with the beach-scolding! It's not scientifically-sound and it's counterproductive. It's a virus—not a moral agent geared to smite people who dare enjoy themselves. Six months in, we *know* most risk is indoors. More knowledge, less baseless outrage.

this whole thread is pretty good on the poor reporting that leads to distrust and overall ends up hurting everyone.

Lol what fake news is this ****? This 700% increase is simply a headline grabbing ploy. They have had a total of about 2200 cases among a population of 1.5 million people. 1 month ago they had like 300 cases total, so yeah even a small uptick in cases is going to account for a HUGE percentage increase. They were the lowest infected state by a large margin a month ago, and not shockingly, they still are the lowest infected state by a fairly large margin today. Hawaii has the lowest cases per/100k in the US.

I guarantee if this headline said "Hawaii sees 1,500 new cases since June" you would have kept scrolling.

so i wonder what caused the uptick. maybe people got lax with distance/mask wearing? tourism?

Cases compared to other states are certainly good. They have had a mask mandate and a 14-day quarantine to enter the state though with no bordering countries/states... why is it increasing at all?

this is a fair question. my guess would be tourists traveling there.
why would their counts be low for 4 months and suddenly blow up?
surely masks helped keep them low in the first place.

Honolulu bars have been fingered as the culprit by the mayor. The overwhelming majority of the cases are in Honolulu.

Btw Mississippi is very close to breaking into the top 10 states for covid deaths per capita.

there is a 14 day quarantine for visitors...it aint the tourists, who have basically disappeared...its young people going to bars.
