Without those nosey feds to worry about we'll be able to make sure only the right votes are cast. We're all narrow minded bigots, just waiting for the chance to act like the Duke boys again.
I'm not the one supporting the candidate promising to keep the suburbs safe from um people who would make them unsafe. That kind of position is pretty close to George Wallace territory. I'm sure George had some redeeming positions on other issues.
Hey it's just words and tweets. Let's pretend it didnt happen.
When you dance with the devil you kinda get used to how he smells. Sometimes you even start to like it.
I want to emphasize that this is not a north-south thing. A few miles from where I live there is a town called Mount Vernon. The schools there are over 90% African American. We have achieved our version of "segregation forever." And there is a lot of resistance in the richer towns to even modest proposals to expand the supply of affordable housing so that more of the families in Mount Vernon can afford to move and get their kids into a better school system. Westchester County is where our president gets his knowledge of this dynamic. Not Georgia. He made his pitch with Westchester moms (and dads) in mind. And of course he knows it translates well elsewhere. The good news is that this kind of political pitch translates less and less well as time passes. The bad news is that people remain quite resistant to integrating neighborhoods and schools to the kinds of families who would benefit the most from such integration. That changes much more slowly than their rejection of the rhetoric.
