The Coronavirus, not the beer

Genuine laugh out loud.

It did give me an idea for something I've struggled with, the creative aspect of coding. I now plan to create a custom algorithm to determine the most desirable retirement locations. Crime rates, natural features, proximity to relatives, distance from metropolitan areas, cost of living, registered voter breakdown, climate, governance...there is so much to consider.

That sounds like a cool project. I'm a listologist of sorts. I'm always looking up top 10 beaches, top 10 places to retire, top 10 prettiest towns in Nevada.

I agree with the point that in prioritizing you want to give some weight to how likely a person is to cause it to spread more widely. So yeah, bar hoppers certainly fall in that group. Otoh giving vaccines to bar hoppers might encourage bar hopping. It's tricky.

And when a lot of people are dying, it does make sense to cut corners in bringing vaccines to market. Again the details are tricky, but the general principle seems sound.

I'm most interested in the second point. Do we re-examine how we evaluate risk on a national level? I'm not confident we do, but the cost of our caution was 350K deaths (and counting), trillions in debt (and counting), how many lost businesses, closed schools, tremendous suffering, reduced quality of life, etc. IMO there's something inherently wrong with a system that takes a couple of days to invent the cure, but a year of testing before we give the green light to use it...and this is the fastest we're ever done it.

To the first point, I do think the market should play a part in who gets the vaccine first. I'm for whatever system gets this shot in the arm of the most people as rapidly as possible. The positive externality of a vaccine is being undervalued in our current distribution plan.

As someone said earlier, how can you use that excuse after passing the previous pork barrel, or the disaster of relief package before that. I expect them to lie but I'm offended when they assume I'm stupid.

Then you need to get some miracle grow for your "offended mechanism" because that's all you'll get from Moscow Mitch and really most if not all of talk radio. The very worst part IMO is that the super loyal lemmings of said far right sources will get right up in your face and try and convince you that Mitch is right about cutting out that "socialism" while they struggle to figure out how they're going to pay their rent or feed their family.

I'm extremely socially conservative, mostly federalist, and would like a return to an early 20th century tax policy. The result has been that my offended mechanism is both long and strong.

long and strong.
