The Coronavirus, not the beer

"Republican Rep. Ron Wright of Texas passed away peacefully at the age of 67 on Feb. 7, 2021. His wife Susan was by his side and he is now in the presence of their Lord and Savior."

Passed away peacefully? Translation: He had the life choked out of him till he could no longer breath even with a ventilator.

Wright's congressional office announced that he had tested positive for Covid-19 on January 21. "I am experiencing minor symptoms, but overall, I feel okay and will continue working for the people of the 6th District from home this week."

Translation: "I should've taken mask-wearing more seriously. Adios amigos."

Jesus man.

Jesus man.

I cannot fathom laughing or celebrating when someone dies just because you disagree with them politically. I hate to think our politics has descended to the point where we devalue someone's life just because of political differences. The step from laughing at someone's death because of politics to advocating someone's death because of politics is very, very small.

I don't see anyone laughing about this. Could you point me in the direction of someone who is?

I DO see an admonishment against people who reject mask-wearing. As is well known, some of Congressman Wright's colleagues were offered masks and refused to wear them while they were sheltering in place during the insurrection. They did so despite crowded quarters. They did so with the knowledge that some of their colleagues, like Congressman Wright, had cancer and other conditions that made them especially vulnerable to covid. It was a shocking display of callousness about the well-being of others. The fact that similar displays occur every day around us should NOT blind us to the shocking nature of the behavior in question.

You ain't looking, and its happened with your boys for years around here.

so while some may want to express outrage at goldfly i'll save my outrage for those colleagues of Congressman Wright who put him and others in jeopardy of a deadly disease

Word of the Day

callous
[ˈkaləs]
ADJECTIVE
showing or having an insensitive and cruel disregard for others.
"his callous comments about the murder made me shiver"
synonyms:
heartless · unfeeling · uncaring · cold · cold-hearted · hard · as hard as nails · [more]

Goldy says its funny when people die.

Runnin says "adios amigo" to someone who died.

Nsacpi: yall are crossing a line being so callous about assuming other posters are happy about this!"

What a loser

Don't forget Zito.

And goldfly said those businesses would have closed anyway.

Callous indeed.

sorry that seems a stretch to me

the expression "that's funny" is a pretty elastic one and i would not interpret that particular instance as expressing joy over Congressman Wright's death...ymmv

I think people like Goldy are laughing at what they see as irony. The fact that someone died is irrelevant.

But its been going on far longer than this. I remember several posters unrepentant in their joy at the deaths of Scalia or the Koch brother.

i'll save my outrage for those who through their callous actions have put vulnerable people like Congressman Wright at increased risk of dying of a deadly disease

You can save it for whatever you want, but i don't think anyone here is "outraged" as you like to paint it.

Seems to make it more dramatic than it really is, but thats no shock either

Outrage is not a limited commodity. What you're doing is giving tacit approval to the celebrating of the deaths of political opponents. It's the same as GOP congressmen and women who refused to condemn the Capitol rioters.

What I did was refute your claim that goldy was tapdancing over Congressman Wright's grave. While simultaneously pointing out the callous and dangerous behavior of some of his colleagues.

Amazing what happens when the testing standards are changed right as the orange man leaves

Miracle!
