The Coronavirus, not the beer

Some of the social distancing should absolutely be maintained since it can be done at relataively low cost. But we have to find a way to restart some of the parts of the economy that have been shut down. None of this is easy. But I don't buy the absolutist position that it should 100% be about saving lives. At some point the cost becomes prohibitive. And I think we have crossed it. So we need to scale back and become smarter about some of the measures that have been taken.

And there are ways to mitigate the amount of despair by targeting measures at an age group over a certain at risk threshold.

We can't even get the right to acknowledge climate change with science, how can we convince them to use measures targeted at specific age groups in the name of science?

We have MAGA nation listening to every word hanging on what their President says despite many of his lies being contradictory to what the scientific experts say.

When Trump finally realizes he should stop lying, he'll expect everyone to give him credit for acting like a normal person instead of a liar.

Add steve Bannon in there and it makes all.the people you guys have been trashing for years.

The issue with the travel bans is that by the time we identify which countries should specifically be restricted, it’s way too late. We needed to be working more on a response plan in the US than determining who to keep out as a primary focus.

Agree that it was too late to stop the spread. But it certainly slowed it assuming we were allowing people from a pandemic area to travel here.

It's small things like this, why it would have gone a long way for the President to just tell the press he won't use china virus because he doesn't wanna enrage people and have them assault and harass asian-americans... but he can't do that.

Instead he knows he'll give a boner to his base. And he won't take any responsibility for any of these assaults or attacks.

thethe keeps harping on about how the travel ban saved thousands of lives... but then you realize President can't even do a simple gesture like this to potentially save more lives. Have even more respect now for Bush 43 post-9/11 going into mosques and telling the people muslims weren't the enemy here.

Information warfare with china but we should focus on such a small segment of our population that is ignorant.

It's why your side is losing.

Nobody here except you and krg cares what China is saying.

We care what our President is saying and what he's going to do to manage this situation.

He hinted earlier he may throw away social distancing guidelines. It's just reckless to speculate on **** like this. If next week he and the experts feel it's safe to move on from social distancing, then do it. But don't speculate it in all-caps on twitter leaving people with uncertainty for a week. It's reckless, and stupid. Can't say that enough.

It's not leadership.

Meanwhile, Madonna gets the Clueless Twit of the Month Award for March. Uploads a video talking about how the virus is the great equalizer, making rich and poor the same, while we've been unable to find food for a week and half and she's literally soaking in an entire bathtub full of milk (and rose petals) in the video.

We already have enough of a hard time getting people to convince themselves they should probably not go out and get drunk or party, when you have the President giving mixed messages like this, his stupid diehards are gonna continue to ignore what they probably should do. And he'll take no responsibility for it.

Nobody here because you guys are 9insane. In the real world when your number one adversary launches a disinformation campaign about the origins of the virus you respond in kind.

But your personal interest in this new issue is blinding you even more than usual. I expected it so I'm not shocked.

No, because we we understand, there are more pressing issues right now than to worry about China and their misinformation campaign.

The right sure cared about Russia using misinformation on our social media networks the last 5 years.

None of our allies are going to take China seriously. Once the dust settles, we'll still be in better position with nearly every other country.

I'm not worried about what China is saying, because the urgent matter is containing the virus here and managing the situation. Getting into piss arguments with China on propaganda, Trump should probably be the last person to do that right now.

Lol russia. Proven so many times over to be a farse.

This on the other hand is real and has dramatic impacts.

Speaking of russia and doing exactly what Putin wants....

Well, better late than never.

Only took him a month plus to say something. Was that so hard?

Anyone with sense would understand it was never even considered to be racist when deciding to say it. It was all a matter of war.

We've been dealing with information warfare ever since Trump came down that escalator. Nobody pays China any mind. They are lying but it's no different from T's SOP.
