Meanwhile, as hospitals begin to be overrun Trump thinks some miracle drug is going to save him. Even if there were such a drug the infrastructure is going to be unable to handle it.

Xi is the leader of what will soon be the biggest economy in the world. I thought that's how you measured quality of life and leadership.

It's not the death toll, but the toll on the health system. If hospitals had unlimited resources and capacity, then that argument would have more merit.

That was the purpose of social distancing. To give runway to build up capacity. Race to the top of the curve and I believe we have gotten ahead of the virus.

The peak will be large but we will be ready and hopefully the hydroxychloroquine will help.
 
 
Donald Trump is possibly the single most worthless person alive (I cannot think of even a single positive quality he possesses), but he has not done as much bad stuff as Xi. The limits placed on the office of the President constrains his ****tiness in a way that the "constitution" of China does not constrain Xi.

Hm, the thing about "Trump being right" is apparently about the death rate being waaaaay less than 1%, which I would love to be true, but I'm gonna go out on a limb as say is premature (the guy in the article mostly is just confident that the 3.4 from the WHO is wrong, which everybody gets). But I'm always looking for interesting informed takes from abroad...

By this same math, that's 500,000 dead Americans. Great, really reassuring.

And that's without getting into some of the assumptions he's making, which don't apply to "get the US economy back":

- Korea has the one true death rate but is also drastically undercounting the sick. I don't really get this but I assume he knows what he is talking about. But this isn't an argument for "going back to normal." Korea took extreme measures.
- Israel will have an 33% lower death rate than Korea because they are so young. Again, I assume he know what he's talking about, but regardless the opposite would apply to the Boomer-Heavy US.
- The health system will not be overwhelmed. LOL, this is already happening in NY with deaths in the hundreds.

I have no doubt that this guy is 1000 times the virus modeller I am. He's predicting 13,500 in the whole country of Israel. We are looking at more than that for just NYC. This guy's method of calculation probably gets us 700k-1M deaths in the US by going back to the "let it happen" method, again, assuming the health system doesn't have problems.

Does that number include the people who will die from lack of treatment from things that normally aren't fatal because hospitals will be too busy to see them? I wonder how people are gonna feel about that.
 
I thought this was apparent the first time. This is exactly why you don't want the idiot President going on tv and saying the things he does to his idiot followers, present company not excluded, of course.

Correction: The original Associated Press article on this story noted the couple took chloroquine — implying they took a prescribed drug. According to the treating hospital, the couple took chloroquine phosphate which can be purchased at a pet store.

The article was correct and left out nothing.

The virus is much less deadly than originally thought. Probably another war tactic by china. However it didnt stop anyone from questioning and trying to destroy the economy.
