The Coronavirus, not the beer

It was the right that kept using China's reported recovery as the reason we shouldn't worry about it blowing up here. I never bought into China's recovery because it was obvious they were trying to silence people who were reporting the severity of it. My focus was on this thing blowing up here.

And it was also the time when Trump was saying it would be gone by april and we have it under control.

I don't care what reports say about China now, because it had zero effect all of those days when Trump kept going on fox news and tweeting it was a Democratic hoax, nothing worse than the flu, we'll have a vaccine soon etc. We can only worry about our business here and deal with China later.

But I am enjoying now the excuses being put out for Trump, when for weeks he would go to the podium and say something unrealistic and Fauci would come up behind him and contradict or correct him. I guess Trump didn't know but everyone else did.

I love sturg's logic that we should have shut down the country in January when Trump found out. You can never have moderation with him it's always go right for the extreme.

That is not my logic.

Hell I dont even support the current shutdown.

I just know that if he did this in January, the usual Hitler calls would have been deafening

You guys keep pretending the administration didnt act and it's a lie. The travel ban was the most significant thing that could have been done outside of a full shutdown.

You all are pretending it was obvious what was coming.

we get what we voted for...and deserve it...at least the ones who voted for him and support him to this day

Which democratic leaders recognized this sooner?

How about democratic responses to the travel ban?

you had people like Burr selling stock as the information came in during February...others (both Dems and GOP) have discussed how alarming the February briefings were...there was bipartisan alarm and concern

the timeline is vivid to me because my birthday is in late February and by tradition we go out to Chinatown for dim sum to celebrate...we passed this year

btw the NSC was very concerned about this in February...it has to be asked why this concern did not translate to action instead of these very misleading reassurances that it would go away like a miracle

And yet it was the trump administration that acted in the interest of Americans.

The epicenter if the crisis is solely on the people managing the city.

It would be 10X worse if we didnt stop the travel and you know it.

We didn't have our first case until mid February.

So no, nobody would have called for a shutdown then in January.

But the fact from Jan to March 13th, our President, who the public saw on TV the most on this, would continually make misleading statements and lie about the severity is a big reason why 1) many people haven't taken social distancing seriously and 2) we were caught off guard.

Trump didn't share his intelligence intel to New Orleans when they held Mardi Gras. That could have saved lives.r

Color me shocked you are against a shutdown, and want people to knowingly and unknowingly spread this virus and make the pandemic worse.

So we ban travel from china and democrats from these cities continue to tell their people to congregate. This is somehow trumps fault.

You can't win the division in April, but you can certainly lose it.

"We have this contained, probably better than anyone else could have imagined"

"We have this very contained."

Quotes from Trump and Kudlow.

Tell me again, when they implied contained, does this mean they were containing this from 2 mill to 100k deaths or containing this as in it's 15 now and will be zero in a few days contained.

Which implication of contained we talking about here.

Do leaders in cities across the countrt have access to the same classified Presidential briefings Trump was getting that warned about what was coming out of China? It's China's fault Trump didn't spread the info down the chain.

Hmm if only we had a Pandemic Response team that created guidelines and procedures for getting information through the pipeline and managing resources, and such.

There was a vacuum at the federal level...and state and local governments (and businesses and individuals and sport leagues and others) moved ahead on their own in the second week of march...i think it is appropriate for the response to reflect local conditions, but some federal laidership would be helpful...even now federal laidership would save lives in some parts of the country that are still in denial and not acting with enough urgency

Governor's DeSantis and Kemp of FL and GA are both Trump guys. They were Trump loyalists before they ran for governor.

Georgia is one of the worst states dealing with this and no stay in order has been called.

Florida, may be even worse due to DeSantis lack of action.

Georgia and FL may very well be the next two places where this blows up.

If we didnt have Trump we could have had this!

Look, I'm not trying to dunk on these people. This is hard. I'm just so sick of the 'had Trump not said this then we'd have no cases!!!' narrative

It's always easier to criticize the leader than be the leader.

Remind me again, look at those dates and tell me what classified intel those leaders had that Trump didn't have.

Tell me what's worse, Trump in March during the middle of this crisis telling people the economy is priority and we shouldn't have to shut down over something worse than the flu, or those clips the beginning of February when people were anxious but leaders were still being hopeful.

I highly doubt those people had the same classified presidential intel Trump had.
