The Coronavirus, not the beer

You saying everyone with any underlying issue is at risk here is also terribly disingenuous.

When people catch this, the mortality rate is very low.

The median age of death is something like 80 years old (dont have the number handy)

Also, as has been my point for months now... the virus isn't going away bc were all cowering in fear.

Unless you propose indefinite lockdowns until a mandatory vaccine is available, the virus will spread again until we become immune.

We are simply delaying the inevidible, while decimating the economy, individual rights, and the nation's mental and physical health. Not to mention cancelling school for millions of kids.

If you want board up in your home because you're scared, have at it. But the rest of the country is ready to move on with our lives. I'll make sure not to visit any nursing homes in the meanwhile

I see your spelling is on par with your math.

No one is advocating we stay locked up indefinitely or for months on end. But acting like lockdowns are "delaying the inevitable" is extremely dumb and short sighted. We are already growing closer to viable treatment options which would reduce the IFR substantially. If this happens soon, lockdowns would literally have saved thousands of lives.

If no treament option is found or if no vaccine is found, then you would be correct.

As a philosophical question.

Is a 16 year old life lost worse than a 80 year old life m

Assuming either individual is not an extraordinary person.

Well. People get fired over giving an opinion about this. But since this is an anonymous baseball discussion board I'll be brave and agree with the premise of your question.

Like literally you are repeating the stupid, absolutely moronic math mistakes thethe was trying to peddle a month and a half ago and was shamed into giving up. It is astonishing.

There was no giving up as it was clearly a careless mistake and not one where the figures were misunderstood.

Still think nobody died of the virus prior to the first reported death? Or did you give up on that?

240,000 / 150,000,000 = 0.0016

That is 16 basis points.

Yall really arguing this?

Meta does this thing where he knows you know the answer but uses an irrelevant syntax error to satisfy his superiority issues.

Its a board. If you don't think that % placement was an error then fine enjoy your issues.

Holy **** yall.

Look up what a damn basis point is.

I spend my entire day dealing with them and yall want to act like I did the math wrong. "Oh ones he typed something wrong on his mobile real fast look how he cant do math!!!"

Maybe this will be an easier way for you to understand it. 99.9984% of the people at risk wont die.

99.9984% of the people at risk wont die.

Hahaha, holy **** you still don't get that is wrong?

Like, I get what a basis point is, but when you turn it into a percentage...

This honestly explains so much about how stupid you've been in this thread. Unbelievably revealing.

This is also incorrect. This number suggests that only 2,400 people will die.

Yeah I get it. In my haste to multi task i typed put .0016%.

My mind thinks in basis points and I was converting to a percentage for the board.

Glad we have wasted a page and a half to talk about what 1/16th of one percent means

This is also ignoring that the original calculation of 240k/150M was made up garbage math in the first place. Those numbers aren't actually in any way related.
