The Coronavirus, not the beer

When you look at its demographics, health system, etc...Sweden should have had a very good outcome. It has managed to have a bad outcome in spite of all its inherent strengths and advantages.

Didn't Norway leaders just say they wish they acted more like sweden?

As with any country there is a range of opinion. Here is an interview with Frode Forland of the Norwegian Institute of Public Health.

His point about asymptomatic transmission seems to have been lost on his Swedish colleagues.

I think he is right though to take a humble view of things given the range of uncertainty.

Yet another public health official saying to protest after screaming to lock everyone down.

Amazing isn't it? And these are the people that demand our trust?

More quality studies. Lets keep pretending that this wasn't about big pharam and OMB.

Never thought it was possible for proples lives to be thrown away strictly for political purposes.

Got to admit though...its been amusing watching the mental gymnastics performed om this board to justify this clear contradiction.

Maybe, just maybe, everything we were told by the experts was wrong.

Haven't heard much about the fact that the lancet study on HCQ was a complete farse.

Where is our board scientist to comment? How about you Zito?

Honestly it's amazing that there were posters on this board who said "dont wanna get arrested? Dont go outside"

Those same posters are mad the police are arresting people who are outside now

No one actually said that. In fact, I'm pretty sure everyone here encouraged you to go outside and go for a walk.

Coronavirus infections are increasing in Sweden, while the number of deaths and people treated at intensive care continue to fall, the Health Agency said on Thursday.

Chief Epidemiologist Anders Tegnell said the increase in cases could not solely be explained by increased testing. Sweden has registered 41,883 cases in total.

"Unfortunately, in Sweden, we can see an increase in cases again," he told a news conference, urging people not to ease up on social distancing.

Tegnell said the increases in new cases was seen primarily in Western Sweden and among younger people than before.

I think we will see the overall IFR fall in Sweden (and elsewhere) as better measures are taken to test and quarantine the people who work with older people. That's sort of low hanging fruit that in retrospect feels like a big failure in many places.

"Cases among the really old have declined quite rapidly. It shows the measures taken have had an effect," he said. "There's reason to believe the decline in deaths will continue."

Tegnell's warning not to ease up on social distancing is apt, and not just for Sweden.

It will be interesting to see what effects all the demonstrations have. It is a subtle situation. Demonstrating outdoors might not be a big deal. But people take transportation (and I presume often not alone) to get to the demonstrations. And I think the demonstrations undermine the general concept of social distancing. So even in contexts that have no connection to the demonstrations (indoors and outdoors) people's behavior with respect to social distancing and wearing masks could change quite a bit.

Dude I think you were the guy who said it.

"Follow the rules, dont get arrested"

Dude, no one actually told you to not go outside, which is what you said.

As far as people disobeying lockdown orders and being otherwise unruly, absolutely I was on board with that, though I don't recall that I ever supported arresting peaceful protestors. In regards to the recent protesting among the BLM, I haven't really addressed it, aside from my post yesterday where I said I had mixed emotions about it.

It appears the large reported tests from yesterday were additional positive lab tests over a few weeks that hadn't been recorded, which is both good and bad news. It's REALLY good that there wasn't a massive 1 day spike in new cases, but their recent numbers don't look as promising when you consider the amount of positives they were missing.
