i withdraw the credit i gave you...the numbers are crushingly bad for us compared to our peers...nothing that is happening in this country in terms of thousands of deaths each week is inevitable...other countries have found ways to obtain much better outcomes...without indefinite lockdowns

we have seen in Arizona that people adjusting their behavior in response to being afraid and having more consistent messaging on masks and social distancing has made a very big difference...closing bars has helped in a number of states...every situation is a bit different but we are learning what works and what doesn't work...we just have been very chuckleheaded in terms of common sense...and as a result we are seeing thousands of deaths each week when our peer group countries are all getting much better outcomes

I can't remember the last time I was out in indoor public and saw more than 1 person without a mask on.

We are one of the most mask compliant countries in the world.

Doesn't seem to be working.

the one state where the presidential opinion polls have moved the most is Florida and last time I checked all the relevant policy makers have an (R) next to their name...that's a pretty's nifty gift the R's are giving to the D's...a thank you note and flowers are in order

We'll see what happens in November. I pay attention to the polls, but not sure why after Hillary's win was all but guaranteed last time.

Right. We are one of the most medically advanced countries in the world. Trump isn’t a medical man. I’m not listening to him on anything that has to do with this virus. Most others aren’t either. My point is, why medically and what specifically are other countries doing we aren’t?

Other than us having a raging sugar addiction, being mostly hypertensive and prediabetic... And IMO the medical reason our numbers suck.

Which is not trumps fault either.

They are lifestyle choices.

I would say one thing countries like Italy and Spain did differently is the point they re-opened. In terms of infection rates. Some of the sunbelt states opened early in terms of where they were in infection rates. If you get infection rates low enough, you have a chance to contain things with a good ground game (tracing, etc). That strikes me as the big difference. The early opening and the lack of investment in the ground game. But if you are going to open too early and cases explode no amount of investment in the ground game is gonna save you.

Also generally we did not curtail activity as much during our lockdown as some of the other countries did. That made a big difference in how low their infection rate dropped relative to ours.

But every country and state is different. I fully believe that the response can be different across countries and you can get similar results. For our country, the response has been bad. Disastrously bad. We have made a lot of bad choices. One item that sticks with me are the tweets very poorly chosen one sent out about liberating Michigan, Virginia and other states. That kind of symbolizes how beyond stupid his entire approach has been. His contribution has been to light a match in a situation where there is a lot of flammable material.

Come on tv or write an article and say stop eating processed carbs and sugar, eat natural foods, and the most important health tool of all...exercise!

Unfortunately, one of the new cases this past week was my dad. He seems to be having a mild case thankfully. Oh, and thethe, you'd be so proud of my dad's rural doctor who prescribed him HCQ.

Hey. I hope you dad comes through this fine. I was wondering one thing about Mississippi. What has the response to the governor's mask mandate?

On my Facebook page, it was probably 50/50. Most businesses have required them for a while though. In my experience in rural places, most people haven't worn them all along, and they still aren't.

ETA... I do think masks help with spread, but I don't think they're an automatic stop sign for covid though. I know 6 people that have had the virus now. Of the 6, 3 got in a hospital setting where masks were certainly required. 1 got it from his wife that worked at the hospital. 1 is my dad who has no idea where he got it... he has the "ain't no one gonna tell me to wear a mask" attitude. I only know one death, and it was pretty tragic. He was early 40s Choctaw Indian... he was pretty anti-mask.

The experts have never claimed mask wearing is the end all.

It's just a major part of the public as a whole adjusting their behavior and such to accommodate small actions and such to help reduce infection.

And yes, those in a hospital wear masks got it, but they're also in an environment where they're prone to see it more than you or I. But for the average joe, who may go out in public at the store or somewhere for an hour or two a day, wearing a mask is one of hte easiest things you can do.

My dad is 71, I took him to the gym the other night when nobody was there because he literally has been going crazy just sitting in the house, and he walked at a medium high speed on the treadmill next to me, with a mask on for 45 minutes straight. If he can do that, it really isn't the end of the world to wear a mask and keep your distance at the grocery store for half an hour.
