The Coronavirus, not the beer

If masks are 10% effective on a 2% prevelance, that is absolutely not worth the cost of mandating it nationally for all of the other negative consequences.

And thats before we even consider that people don't wear them correctly anyways so the effectiveness gets even lower

What are the other negative consequences, in your opinion?

Death is absolutely a part of life. Tomorrow makes 1 year since I lost my best friend to cancer (at 34). That does not mean we should roll over and not try to give everyone the best chance possible at a long healthy and happy life.

The little talked about factor is how obesity is one of, if not, the main driver of the comorbidities people are dying from. Life is what is it and it’s what you make out of it. We are “punishing” the world and trying to defy the pure nature of life. We all die.

But what we have seen is drastic increases in suicide (and much higher in attempts or thoughts), domestic abuse and lack of learning. We are also teaching our young children to stay away from iky people with germs. Masks also prevent people from contributing to the world economy which has thrusted hundreds of millions into poverty.

This is because of the pandemic mostly. Some because of the lockdown. It is a HUGE stretch to attribute any of this to masks.

Bacteria infections, psychological issues, and general contempt for your fellow citizen if he/she gets too close to you... or worse, if he/she isn't wearing a mask.

A mask is a symbol of fear and sickness that we are normalizing in our society

This is such a frustrating approach to a discussion about trying to prevent an illness from killing more people than it has to. Feel free to approach life like that if you want. Thankfully plenty of others haven't (otherwise we would've never made the advancements we have in the medical field) and don't.

Definitely some valid points in here. I think you are blowing it way out of proportion in regards to mask usage, but I am looking forward to reading the studies on it. If you are right, we will have an opportunity to perhaps more accurately weigh the pros and cons the next time a pandemic hits. There are going to be some mistakes made, and it is certainly possible that masks might prove to cause more harm than good. It is not, however, really still a question among people who actually are experts in this whether or not masks have pros.

The world is suffering because fat people are dying at higher rates in comparison to the rest of the population.

How’s that fair to the hundreds of millions in poverty?

Life isn't fair. Many of the people who suffer from obesity are that way because they were already in poverty. We should absolutely address those issues to try to prevent this sort of thing in the future. It is a huge ( :O ) problem.

So why are picking winners and losers as opposed to letting life take its course?

I do want to know if the mother****er who ate that bat was fat or not. If he or she could've skipped that meal and didn't, I'm going to be mad.

His point is why do millions of people have to suffer because of people who are unhealthy?

You can easily make the argument in reverse and that fat people are selfish for expecting majority of people to change their lives to cater to them.

Well the entire world is throwing itself into poverty for decades in order to save people who average age of death is 82...

Why should families with healthy normal children help pay for the exorbitant costs involved in educating special needs children?
