The Coronavirus, not the beer

North Dakota's governor imposed a mask mandate November 13. Since North Dakota and South Dakota are otherwise very similar this offers a natural experiment of sorts that allows for statistically isolating the impact of a particular intervention.

Deaths in North Dakota since November 13: 655

Deaths in South Dakota since November 13: 1,065

over 400 lives saved...a pretty good return on an intervention that costs nothing

before November 13, more people had died of covid in North Dakota than South Dakota...after November 13 the situation changes significantly

kudos to Gov Burgum...better late than never

You've been oddly silent about the performance of your communist havens of NY and Cali.

Wonder why?

But sure, south dakota is the big problem here lol

Three more days until the adults take over the Covid response and the T apologists start attacking everything they do.

Some see this is as bad news

This is a silly bell curve. It's like cheering someone getting a 60 grade in school after getting a 40.

For example, Vermont is just entering "critical" new cases. South Dakota is only a few weeks from leaving Extreme into critical.

There's better ways to handle this than others. Some states are going to be cursed by population. Some states (Arkansas) have no excuse. Right now in the COntiguous USA one state is not in an active outbreak, and it's North Dakota. Who corrected their extreme highs in under 2 months. From 181 cases per 100K to 23. Hmm, did they do something mid novemer?

Oh I was just trying to dupe the lecturer out of his hole.

Mission accomplished.

Curious his thoughts on California and NY but dont expect any analysis outside of itty bitty red states

Germans who repeatedly refuse to quarantine after being exposed to COVID-19 will be held in detention centers — and even under police guard, according to reports.

Officials in the state of Saxony — which is experiencing one of the worst outbreaks in the European nation — have already approved plans to hold quarantine-breakers in a fenced-off section of a refugee camp, the Telegraph said.

Another state, Brandenburg, also plans to use a section of a refugee camp.

In Schleswig-Holstein, repeat offenders will be kept in a special area in a juvenile detention center, the report said, citing Germany’s Welt newspaper.

The state of Baden-Württemberg has two hospitals with rooms to hold the scofflaws, which will be guarded by police, the report said.

The centers are aimed at detaining only those who continue to break lockdown even after being fined, the report said.
