The Coronavirus, not the beer

I have known very few people who actually say that and most obese people constantly think about losing weight. However there are reasons it’s not easy to lose the weight once your body has established it as a baseline. It has a lot in common with addiction.

However this really is an attempt to deflect to a different real problem that it is more politically viable to say the government has no role in. It’s kind of a cop out.

Government proves to be ineffective at legislating every day habits.

It just doesn’t work.

It is an addiction. The worst food for you is generally the cheapest and also packed with sugar and salt. Sugar is probably the most addictive substance on the planet and it's a slow killer.

Eh.

Can’t get there. It’s coping because the mind wants you to be ok with the decision you made. You likely get a dopamine reaction to it. Just like your phone, and sweets.

We need more of this in our politics. Trump Jr ain’t the guy but I hope the next to take the mantle pushes this hard.

Does the left want a solution to the healthcare crisis or not? Would be much easier to get Medicare for all if obesity wasn’t the epidemic it is right now.

I’m not entirely sure the Right wants the solution, either. Fighting obesity would include public programs to increase access to healthy food and resources for schools to teach exercise and nutrition properly. Tighter regulation on the food and soft drink industries would also help.

Government is not the answer.

The answer is pushing individual responsibility.

The answer is pushing individual responsibility.

Individual responsibility only goes so far without proper resources. If the impoverished are eating macaroni and cheese and hot dogs, and there aren’t good ways for children to learn good habits without specific educational resources.

All this information is available though. The individual has to make the decision to care about their health.

This is a generational problem in that it's not something a few clever laws will fix. It will require a long term commitment to change behaviors. I have no problem with helping to provide increased access to healthy food. That actually will likely result in long term savings in the form of lower medical expenses and less lost productivity due to a healthier populace.

I do disagree with regulating food and soft drink. That's your individual choice. If you want to choose to drink that large coke, that's your choice.

That’s a lot easier said than done, though. Behaviors are learned early and reinforced through the formative years.

Regulation was a poor choice of wording. I meant there’s more to be done with showcasing the health risks with sugary foods and beverages, as well as with “healthy” foods like McDonald’s salads.

Gotcha. I have no problem with people making informed choices in food.

Educational programs are everywhere. It’s never been more accessible.

This people can still go walk for 30 min.

People trying to tell me they don’t have half an hour are probably making excuses for themselves as well.

Would hate to have argued against this point just a few short days ago....

Could have just quarantined the whole obese without wearing one mask and we would have had a significantly better outcome.

As a society we chose fat adults over children. What a shame.
