The Coronavirus, not the beer

Lockdowns were obviously a massive mistake.

I don't take issue with the early lockdowns. We knew so little about the virus at that point and had so little data that trying extreme measures like that made sense. It might not have ended up working but it was something that had some logic to it.

What I consider a mistake is not learning from the data. Once we had data showing what worked and what didn't, not basing actions off that that was a mistake. We've had a lot of decisions based on fear that fly in the face of data when the decision was made.

100%. I was on record here agreeing with the early lockdown but thought we should have opened up after the 15 days and certainly by Easter time.

Alas, we have a nation of low information fearful sheep that also can’t comprehend simple data.

The amount of damage caused by these lockdowns will be felt for decades.

So we're over a year into COVID as a Pandemic.

Let's talk about how some countries have done in the Pandemic.

First let's look at Japan, 475K cases 9155 deaths. Japan has a population of 126M and a density of 340.8 persons per square kilometer

Let's next look at Australia 29322 cases, 909 deaths. Australia has a population of 25.4M and a pop density of 3.3 people per square kilometre

Sweden 805K cases 13,465 deathes, Population 10.2 million density 25.4 inhabitants per square kilometer

Brazil has 12.7M cases 322K deaths. Population of 211M and a density of 25.06 people per square kilometer.

Express those as percentages of population. 0.3% of the population of Japan has tested positive for COVID 19, and 1.9% of Cases lead to deaths.

Australia, 0.1% of the population tested positive for COVID. 3% of those cases lead to deaths.

Sweden . 7.9% of the population tested positive for COVID 1.7% of those cases lead to deaths.

Brazil - 6% of the population tested positive for COVID 19. 2.5% of those cases lead to deaths.

Japan has a median age of 48.4 years. Australia 37, Sweden 41.1. Brazil 31.4.

As far as Obese stats, they're not as clean to find. Japan is around 4%. Australia around 31% Sweden around 10% and Brazil around 35%.

So we know the demographics, why were so few people infected in Japan or Australia? What measures could possibly have been implemented. It's almost like places that encouraged or ordered masks did pretty good.

Let's talk about the recently maligned by Sturg Philippines. where 0.7% of their population has tested positive.

It's almost like, places that put into effect measures to prottect against COVID 19, and their population followed them, had less cases and no major change in death rates.

Lol ok then why have businesses required it, and people are driving around alone in cars with masks and gloves on?

No one listened to the cdc? I mean they made some pretty big gaffs here but...

You continue to clown yourself here

Zito cherry picking places that support his second mask, and ignoring the dozens of places that completely contradict it, is so very cute.

Enjoy the 2nd mask and your basement for another year.

The rest of us have moved on long ago

Listening to opening day on the radio when I had to run an errand

Didn't realize Joe lost his mom to Covid in November

I guess he didn’t have a message board member tell him it’s nothing to worry about
