The Coronavirus, not the beer

The stats don't show 16 year olds die more than 49 year olds.

Yet this bill prioritizes them

Actually they show a 50 something black or hispanic person is about as likely to die of covid as a 70 something white person.

The other thing is the data also show whites being vaccinated at a faster rate than minorities. Should policy be tilted to close this gap. It seems to me there is a case for that, especially if the reason for the gap is differential access to healthcare.

Oh I'm sure its systemic racism no doubt

https://www.theguardian.com/society/2021/apr/02/backlog-is-truly-frightening-former-nhs-chief-warns-of-vital-delays

Patients could be waiting as much as two years for vital operations by the time of the next election due to a “truly frightening” backlog of care caused by the pandemic, the NHS’s former boss has said.

Lengthening delays in getting treatment in England are will become a major political problem for Boris Johnson and pose a risk to patients’ health, Sir David Nicholson told the Guardian.

“The backlog is truly frightening. We can very easily get to the next election with people waiting over two years. It’s easy to do that,” said Nicholson, citing an explosion in the number of people waiting at least a year since the start of the Covid-19 crisis.

The widespread suspension of normal NHS diagnostic tests and surgery during the pandemic as hospitals prioritised Covid care has left the service in England with a record 4.59 million people waiting for hospital treatment.

That number is set to rise to what the NHS Confederation believes could be as much as 6.9m cases by the end of the year as people on a “hidden waiting list” – who put off seeking help after discovering symptoms of illness – finally visit a GP.

Interesting you think this is that. Like automatically

i know you and/or your wife work in the medical field...i have a few friends and family members who do as well...it is a thang...statistics back it up in various ways...for example the rate at which people lack medical insurance by race and income...it is not the only part of access to medical care, but a fairly significant indicator...if you don't have insurance you may go to the emergency room for an emergency but you skip the annual checkups and treatments for smaller thangs...sorry to be pedantic

and yeah it is a legacy issue...the product of many many years and generations of second class citizenship...and the product of racism and societal indifference today as well...you can be a believer in individual responsibility AND a believer that society has an obligation to make policy (including initiatives to get vaccines specifically to minority communities, which means a multitude of minority individuals) in a way that alleviates these discrepancies...again sorry to be so pedantic

I mean there is literally nothing other than state age requirements keeping anyone from getting the vaccine.

There is belief in some community groups that they don’t want to get it. It’s quite different than access.

Yeah, I'm not seeing how offering a black person access before a similarly aged, similarly free from comorbidities white person convinces the black person to seek out the vaccine...if anything, I'd guess it would make that person more skeptical...

That would be an example of ineffective policy. I assume you would be in favor of policy that is effective in terms of bringing up minority vaccination rates closer to the rate for whites.

A good start would have been the POC VP to not be an anti vaxxer early on.

Depends on the specifics of the policy, but in general, yes. The government has done a poor job dispensing good information throughout this crisis, so I’m skeptical they could craft an effective policy.

They will certainly never get something this complicated exactly right. Enemy of the good, etc.

A disease so deadly, we must get tested to know we have it publicly shame everyone to convince them to get vaccinated from it

i love when you try to play both sides of this

and then the one where you should kiss the feet of trump for the vaccine etc

The vaccine is great for people who want it but will of course be a requirement to participate in society.

The useful idiots will cheer coerced medicine

They never have to answer for being so wrong.

They just keep doubling down and the useful idiots blindly believe in them like the religious cult they have become
