The Coronavirus, not the beer

LONDON, Sept 12 (Reuters) - British Prime Minister Boris Johnson will set out on Tuesday his plans to manage the COVID-19 pandemic in the winter months, announcing a decision to scrap the introduction of vaccine passports and steps to end some emergency powers.

"Now that we're entering autumn and winter ... the prime minister this week will be setting out our plans to manage COVID over the coming few months and in that we will be making it clear that our vaccine programme is working," [ Health Minister Sajid] Javid told Sky News.

He told the BBC he was not "anticipating any more lockdowns" but would not take the measure off the table, that the government would not go ahead with vaccine passports to allow people to attend mass events and he wanted to "get rid of" PCR tests for travellers as soon as possible.

Aside from not taking lockdowns off the table, I say bravo!

Some countries are starting to follow the science.

Would be nice if countries removed international travel restrictions for vaccinated folks. If a country is 70% vaccinated and a plane full of 100% vaccinated individuals land at the airport, by definition the % vaccinated population just increased, right?

To not allow travel (or insist on onerous regulations or quarantine requirements for vaccinated individuals) is a tacit admission that the vaccines aren’t as good at stopping the spread as advertised, no?

Hows the hospitalization looking like in Florida/Texas/Miss?

Anyone?

THis is my favorite attempted dunk.

FLorida has a 59 per 100k hospitalization rate. Compare it to NH who had an increase, they're sitting at 11. Michigan had an increase, to 15. NJ had an increase, to 11. New York had an increase, to 15.

Play a different game. States with more than 40 per 100K.

West Virginia - 48
Kentucky - 57
South Carolina - 49
Tennessee - 49
Georgia - 60
Texas - 49
Alabama - 59
Mississippi - 46
And the aforementioned Florida.

Claiming victories for those states is like claiming victory for getting a D after flunking for half the year.

FWIW, states with 15 or fewer
NH - 11
Maine - 14
MIchigan - 14
Minnesota - 13
NJ - 13
RI - 13
NY - 15
VT - 5
CT - 11

Weird attempted flex there.

LOOK AT FLORIDA! THEY STILL HAVE 3 TIMES THE HOSPITALIZATIONS AS CALIFORNIA.

The problem is, what's the crime for falsifying documents? sturg will be calling you a tyrant for arresting someone who flies with a fake vaccine card.

Oh geez - Its like you don't understand the whole point of the argument as usual.

1 month ago we had the expected doom and gloom predictions.

Since that time their hospitalizations have significantly been reduced.

And of course the seasonality element is still beyond you which is of no shock at all.

So the seasonality of FLorida is so different than California that it hurts them? Heh.

I like how the argument for the disease destroying the south isn't that they're doing a **** job of encouraging vaccine and social distancing. It's that people in the south are too big of wusses to have outdoor events in the heat. Got to love it. It's not like you'll die fi you spend several hours outside in 110 degree heat. Just drink some ****ing water you pusses. If I could survive a COVID winter where the temps here are actually deadly if oyu're outside, you can not be a wuss and sweat a little bit if you must congregate.

Also you do realize right now FLorida's 7 day average for deaths is 350. Before this AUgust their highest death total was 272.

What a lunatic.

I continue to be impressed by how much lower hospitalizations and positivity results on tests are in the 5 highest vaccination rates than in the five lowest vaccination states.

Of course, it could change when the weather gets colder. But so far the results in these two groups of states point to efficacy of vaccines in reducing both severe disease (hospitalizations) and infections (as measured by percentage of tests coming back positive). No vaccine is perfect. But these results are very encouraging.

The most deranged and it isn't close.

I thought Cajun was bad but Zito is at an all new level.

Think about someone who hasn't accomplished anything in life telling other people what to do.

Look at this cog in the wheel acting like he accomplished anything. Cute of you. Take a chance in life sometime, you'll find it fulfilling

I think the latest rallying cry for the anti-vaxx contingent is Wait Till Winter Term. At which point they will come up with something new.
