There is some speculation that the new variant is so strange that it may have been engineered.
How did it get in Australia?
Can someone explain to me how the response to a new variant is boosters for an old variant?
One of the reasons Covid has spread so wildly and caused so many severe cases is that there was zero immune knowledge of it. It was a novel infection for our immune systems and so was unlike anything they had seen before. It makes the process of your immune system recognizing it and responding much slower.
A vaccine gives your immune system exposure to it. Omicron might be more effective at evading immunity but the fact that your immune system has seen something similar in the past will mean a quicker, stronger response. This usually means a shorter duration and less severe symptoms.
Have you ever had a cold going around your family where others seem to get it really bad and you just get a mild version? That often happens because you've had a similar cold in the past and your body is better set up to fight off this new version. Same basic thing.
How did it get in Australia?
Australia does not require quarantine for citizens traveling internationally that are vaccinated and have a negative PCR test within 72 hours of their flight. So probably a vaccinated person picked up Omicron, got tested before a PCR test would come back positive, and carried it into the country.
We have had spread for almost two years now.
Overwhelming majority of the human population is either vaccinated or has been in contact with the virus naturally.
Using old vaccines in response to a new variant when the only confirmed cases thus far has been in vaccinated people is a bit odd....

Eventually the stragglers will come home to the only correct approach to beating a global pandemic.
Eventually....
It's sad. It's beyond obvious by now that the "vaccine" is good for preventing serious illness and should be taken for those that are in an at-risk category. But it's not stopping the spread and likely never will. Mandates for it are a joke.
You would think by now the road forward is clear.
How many deaths for Sweden the past month?
Sweden has twice the population of Norway but roughly 14 times the number of Covid deaths. Sweden just front loaded their Covid cost. It's not a model.
J&J just said you have the pleasure of taking their boosters every 2 months.
These aren't vaccines people.
We were lied to.
