Because he doesn't have strong opinions himself and doesn't know how the politics of such a position will play out yet. He's a consensus guy and will defer to others on tough questions.

After decades of wedge issue politics, this is what is left standing.

On the bright side ?
We watched one candidate articulate a climate policy and the other ramble about forest floors,exploding trees and "democrat" leaders that think he is fabulous.
The question was the "science of climate change" the moderator went out of his way to be clear the question.
One candidate answered the moderators question the other did what the other does

One candidate invoked the others offspring while the attacked candidate didnt take the bait and involve himself in a pissing contest.

One candidate invoked Pocahontas , Crooked Hillary, green New Deal, "Bernie"
and others
While the other stayed on topic keeping it between the participants

And yes to be clear, abortion is a wedge issue

I fell asleep about half way through the debate and watched the rest in the morning.

I'm not sure what Wallace can do when Trump is constantly childishly interrupting both he and Biden.

Trump knew what he was doing. And was performing for his base. He also knows that by making the debate a **** show he brings down the house with him and makes voters sour on both.

He needs low turnout.
 
I do remember Romney getting Obama pretty bad in their 1st debate, but Obama wasn't unhinged like trump, just unprepared.

Biden was never fact checked for the absurd amount of lies stated. Trump of course was checked by wallace repeatedly.

Its all good to ask about Brenna Taylor bit not about the groundbreaking evidence thst proved the biggest crime in our nations history.

Its all theater.

Nah. It's a valid strategy.

He was performing for his base to continue the me vs the world thing. And at the same time he was also dragging down the debate with his sabotaging of the debate process. He baited Biden quite a bit.
