The Debates of 2020

With all due respect
After decades of wedge issue politics, this is what is left standing.
Yes, we are reaping what we sow
I find it rich that you of all people would say such a thing

On the bright side ?
We watched one candidate articulate a climate policy and the other ramble about forest floors,exploding trees and "democrat" leaders that think he is fabulous.
The question was the "science of climate change" the moderator went out of his way to be clear the question.
One candidate answered the moderators question the other did what the other does

One candidate invoked the others offspring while the attacked candidate didnt take the bait and involve himself in a pissing contest.

One candidate invoked Pocahontas , Crooked Hillary, green New Deal, "Bernie"
and others
While the other stayed on topic keeping it between the participants
///////

And yes to be clear, abortion is a wedge issue
ranked 1b
behind race

I often have a hard time following you 57. And interactions between us aren't always the best. I'm not sure I know what your beef with me is? Not liking Biden? Not liking the dumpster fire that was last night? Thinking they all contributed to it? Thinking that our national-social discourse -- clearly seen here in this forum -- is less than civil and produces what we've got on the highest level? That I take abortion as a serious issue? That I just don't agree with you much? What?

Btw, I'm not saying they Trump/Biden/Wallace were equally bad.

Lest you forget, I've been a Trump opponent and most certainly still am. Yet, there is no home for my ilk in the D party.

Hoped you would (had) recognize Trump is in great part the product of the politics of abortion
as as much as the politics of race
You have over the years been a supporter/proponent of the politics of abortion
Yet yesterday decried the state of political discourse

odd
////////////

As I have said over the years should you and I ever meet we would get along fantastically
( as long as we agree to disagree)

On the bright side? We did agree on a lot that happened last night
as I noted
//////////////

there is room for your "ilk" in the D party should you find common ground.
As there are a few of your "ilk" ---
at the top of the ticket for one

Y’all saw the debate. You know what happened. Which member of

your family did Trump remind you of, the one you respected and loved,

or the one who embarrassed you and terrorized you?

yeah, that Jason Isbel

Unlike leftists I dont associate politicians as my family.

that's funny, I recognized a number of people in Trump's Last night behavior .
Some family, some teachers,some co workers. Bosses - too many to mention.
Not specific to men either

Matter of fact interacted with one today.
Claims Coronavirus will disappear Nov 4
Hmm

I dont get why this question keeps coming up but I'm smart enough to understand that it won't stop

Again, why is something so inconsequential constantly at the forefront while the body count keeps growing with BLM and Antifa?

20 years ago there was a little room. Now taxpayer and insurance funded abortion is a key piece of the Democratic party platform, and those who have a moral objection to it certainly aren't welcome. The Democrats celebrate diversity of all kinds, except thought.

Oh yes there is if you evangelicals would worry less about souls and more about your country. I can promise you doing the right thing and voting Biden is not going to send you to Hell. Abortion is never going to be stopped in this country so why let one issue keep you from doing what's right for the nation. I don't vote for Dems because they are pro-choice. Matter of fact I could care less on that issue one way or another. I vote Dem because their policies tend to help someone who can't work like myself have a little better life.

Considering mic cuts for next debate. LOL

I think they should give each debater 3 yellow flags to throw when they feel the other has said a lie. And then have a fact check team off site to verify who is right.

My position on abortion is not one that people would describe as pro-life or pro-choice. Given two quality candidates I would vote for the pro-life one over the pro-choice one most of the time. That's part of the reason I've been a Republican most of my life. But the party went nuts in 2016 and now I've moved to a new political home. Politics is about coalitions. We form coalitions with people we disagree with on some issues to make progress on other issues. It requires a certain amount of trust. Some people have made a calculation that the judges very poorly chosen one has given them is worth everything else. We'll see how that plays out. I think they are underestimating one thing. Which is that many of us who in the past have been comfortable forming a coalition with them have come to certain conclusions that will make us very reluctant to form a coalition of any sort with them in the future.

In a sense the past 4 years have radicalized me. I've come to conclude that anyone who thinks well of the current administration has a way of looking at the world that is fundamentally incompatible with my values and sensibilities. It is going to be a long time before I make common ground with them on anything.

But I do wish those who will be picking up the pieces in the GOP after the elections well. Our system works better with two semi-functional parties.

I was the same way. I've voted Republican practically all my life before 2016. I didn't vote in the Presidential election in 2016 because I hated both candidates, but I probably hated DJT a little less than I hated the super liberal HRC. I had also grown to like Obama by the end of his Presidency, though I still would have voted McCain and Romney in 2008/2012 even knowing what I know now, as I genuinely liked both candidates.

Trump hasn't been quite as terrible as most liberals make him out to be, but he's been nowhere near as good as his supporters make him out to be. Nevertheless, his policies and hateful (borderline racist) rhetoric have divided Americans even more. That, and he's just a terrible human being and absolutely unfit for the highest office in the US. It's time for someone new. I just wish that someone new wasn't Joe Biden.
