You are reading way too much into his comments. He's simply a salesman who says whatever he thinks his current audience wants to hear. It will be interesting watching the comments as he pivots away from the wingnuts and to the center. I predict a lot of contradictions. He's already reversed himself over taxes on the rich.

I don't think he's (Bedell) reading too much into his (Hawk's) comments at all. I think it's just a really serious difference of opinion. I think Hawk meant every word he said and I believe Bedell meant every word he said as well. That's just what happens sometimes, people disagree, most often about politics and religion.

You can also add the opportunist governor of my state, Nikki Haley, to the list. She recently turned down a VP slot before it was even offered to her, but that's a blessing, as keeping that farce of a leader out of higher office is a good thing.

Also surprised about your comments about Haley. She has looked impressive from where I sit a thousand miles away, but you see her warts close up, so I bow to you sir.

Trump is pivoting quickly and I'm curious to see what his stated policies look like from now until the convention. He seems to be really ramping up the populist angle. As Runnin pointed out, Hillary may turn out to be the conservative in the race. When all is said and done, I think she will be more hawkish on the foreign policy than Trump (Trump's early comments regarding ISIS seem to have faded somewhat). As per big finance, my guess is Trump hates a lot of those types personally, seeing his family is nouveau riche when compared to the old money New York families. It's not a perfect comparison by any means, but when Jesse Ventura ran for Governor and won here in Minnesota back in 1998, his platform was basically "things I want to change because they bug me." No policy sense at all. It was little crap like license plate fees (his were too high) and personal watercraft policy (he liked rodding around the lake at high speeds on his and his neighbors didn't like it). Trump seems to hate hedge fund managers (probably because he's jealous), so they'll be targeted.

I'm really curious to see who Trump chooses for his VP. Gringrich seems to be lurking, but he's probably old news. I'm thinking Trump will tap someone he would like to tap, maybe former member of Congress Mary Bono or Iowa Senator Joni Ernst. Of course, Ernst talked about castrating hogs in one of her commercials, so that might scare the Donald a bit.

By "his", I was talking about Trump's.
 
It's interesting that one of Hillary's biggest flaws as a candidate, that she lacks spontaneity and comes across too calculating, may turn into a big plus for her when compared to Trump's glib, off the cuff style where he seems to just say the first thing that comes into his head.

Yeah, but how else do we judge? By his past actions?

I mean we really can't just say, "ah, that's crazy talk, he believes and will do what I want" can we?

This is one of the reasons why I think it would behoove The Donald to choose a vp with some military or foriegn policy experience. I think that would ease people's worries a bit about his foreign policy. Joni Ernst would certainly be a good choice as that would check off a couple of boxes.
