It's only a good read if it falls into your belief system. Reality is aside from being poorly written and full of flaws. For the biggest one
He uses his wits and skills to make it off the Death Star, makes a choice to join the Rebellion, attempts to convince Han to fight with
No, they got off the Death Star because Vader wanted them to escape so they could find out the location of the rebel base.
1. Rey is not presented as flawless. Literally Luke walks in on her having a heart to heart with Kylo Ren. Like no one thought that was good watching the movie.
2. Luke's downfall makes sense if you consider that he's an actual person not some kind of asinine holier than thou perfect embodiment.
“It is tragic. I'm not a method actor, but one of the techniques a method actor will use is to try and use real-life experiences to relate to whatever fictional scenario he's involved in. The only thing I could think of, given the screenplay that I read, was that I was of the Beatles generation - ‘All You Need Is Love’, ‘peace and love’.
“I thought at that time, when I was a teenager: ‘By the time we get in power, there will be no more war, there will be no racial discrimination, and pot will be legal.’ So I'm one for three. When you think about it, [my generation is] a failure. The world is unquestionably worse now than it was then.”
3. Again the idea that Rey has no internal conflict is moronic, especially when compared to Luke. We witnessed Rey's internal struggle between a number of issues. Which if I have to explain, someone didn't seriously watch the movie.
4. Just to pick on a logic jump this "good read" did "The difference between his reaction to this premonition and Anakin’s in Attack of the Clones is that Luke is acting out of genuine love and concern from feeling the certainty of his friends’ suffering, not from fear caused by a dream " Nope, there is no difference other than Luke didn't stew on it and let it consume him. He acted on his fear as Anakin did. And it drove him to action. in Anakin's course that action drove him to the Dark Side and in Luke's it drove him into the waiting arms of Vader where he narrowly escaped with his life.
This person ignores a **** ton of star wars knowledge that exists out there. First and foremost is that there's a **** ton of information that exists outside of the movies.
"But Rey’s proficiency in saber combat still comes out of left field. "
We see Rey carrying what inher entire time on Jakku? A staff. Which means she's almost certainly more than proficient in simple martial combat. We also know from shows like The Clone Wars that you don't have to be a force user to be strong with a lightsaber as we watched Pre Viszla, leader of death watch hold his own in battles against Obi Wan and Darth Maul. Rey we know based on you know watching the films, spent a long time on her own battling to survive on Jakku, one of the harshest worlds out there.
"And if that was the case, wouldn’t he seize any opportunity to redeem himself by dealing with the problem that he feels he created? "
He did. He delayed long enough for Leia and the resistance to survive.
"How did he possibly end up with so much darkness within him? The film seems to insist that he was born that way, which blatantly goes against Episodes I-VI’s established themes of nurture over nature in terms of human development"
I'll answer this with a few different things that were clear. First and foremost as Luke said and Leia said in TFA why he turned to the dark side. Snoke worked on turning him for some time.
I could keep going, but I mean it's clear that this person didn't critically watch the film and hasn't watched or read anything Star Wars related aside from the movies and even then probably didn't critically think about them.
OK one more
"So from this exchange, I’m led to believe that Kylo never hated Han, but rather saw his own attachment to his father as a weakness that he needed to eradicate"
Which is bull****. Consider this was easily handled in TFA
SNoke: There's something more. The droid we seek is aboard the Millennium Falcon. In the hands of your father, Han Solo. Even you, Master of the Knights of Ren, have never faced such a test.
Kylo: By the grace of your training, I will not be seduced.
It's freaking clear that the reason he killed Han was to quelch his connection to the light side as much as possible and he saw his father and mother as his connection to the light side.
Ok one more thing
" to do the right thing, to ‘man up’, raise his X-Wing out of the water,"
This mother****er thinks an X-Wing under water for many years can be risen and flown out on. Dafuq? This person thinks fusion reactors that were submerged for years will still work? Just because of what? Deus Ex Machina?
Again, it's a bad read, if you obsess over Star Wars like me.
**** I can't help myself
" Supreme Leader Snoke can remotely Force-choke people, read every thought in Kylo Ren’s mind, and use Force lightning (and he was even described by Disney as being stronger than Darth Sidious), but he literally couldn’t sense the movement of the lightsaber right beside him? Why did he even have to close his eyes to see Kylo’s thoughts?"
Holy **** bro. Obviously like most Omnipotent creatures Snoke was relishing in his victory, he was pompous and relishing and enjoying what he saw as his final moment of greatness. And he didn't "look" because he was reading Kylo's mind and enjoying it. I could go on, it was really blatantly obvious to me.
"Poe Dameron and Admiral Holdo’s arc is utterly useless and simply the result of bad management and miscommunication. All she had to do was tell him, “yes, there is a plan, and it’s Leia’s plan, but I can’t trust anyone right now, especially after your hotshot stunt, and the fact that we don’t know how they tracked us through lightspeed.” Subplot solved, unpredictable hotshot put on ice."
Hey she said there was a plan and belittled Poe as well.
I don't understand why it's acceptable in the eyes of so many that a military officer questions their superior and we expect the superior to lay out every fine detail. Especially to a recently disgraced officer.

Suggest reading that, it's actually well written.
"Also, why did Admiral Holdo wait until several other transports were blasted before ramming that pursuing First Order ship (earlier it’s blatantly stated that was the plan, but they make it out to be a spur of the moment sacrifice), "
NOOOOOOOOOOOPE. The plan was for the resistance to go to the base and for the first order to chase the flag ship. Thinking they crushed the first order while they regrouped on an old rebel base with comms and defenses. It was clearly stated in the film. Person didn't even watch the film I think.
"Why even have dogfights anymore if all it takes to destroy the largest ships are lightspeed kamikaze attacks? Could it truly be that this is the first time in the Star Wars universe anyone has thought of using that as a battle tactic?"
NOOOOOOPE. I don't have to link to this wiki post showing it as silly. But I'll lead off first with the first time it happened on film, when a lowly A-Wing destroyed the Super Star Destroyer the Executor
https://www.starwars.com/video/the-destruction-of-the-executor
But if you do want that Wiki
https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Kamikaze
I could go on, but I hope you see the point, this is not a good read as it's grossly ill informed.
As far as why no one has done this before, it's pretty clear, you don't risk swapping a capital ship for a capital ship. Especially if you're the underpowered ship. The Japanese didn't ram US Aircraft carriers with destroyers.
Edit: Forgot to add where soemoen was complaining about Mary Sue this that and the other. They don't pay attention to Jakku's existence. I won't go into the details of the End of Empire's end, but it talks about it and it's really cool and interesting.
