The Official Thread of Maitan Madness

Kevin hasn't played for Danville since injuring the hammy, but I hope can go for tomorrow's doubleheader in Bristol.

Stats in GCL at age 17: 9 games, 37 PA, 5 R, 0 HR, .314/.351/.400/.751, .440 BABIP, 5.4% BB%, 27.0% K%, .086 ISO, .358 wOBA, 114 wRC+

Stats in Danville at age 17: 13 games, 54 PA, 4 R, 1 HR, .216/.259/.275/.534, .303 BABIP, 3.7% BB%, 31.5% K%, .059 ISO, .252 wOBA, 45 wRC+

The numbers are not good in Danville, but it's not a good sample size.

Baseball prospectus says he has a 45 glove and 45 arm right now at 3B (there's no way he stays a short). He's also not a runner (was clocked at .455 home to first as a lefty)

Is anyone getting worried that he won't live up to the Miggy/Chipper comps?

I don't anticipate anyone living up to standards like that. No remotely worried right now. Too many scouts and people that have seen him swing the bat have had really high praise for me to worry about 50 PAs in Danville. He was likely never staying at short anyway and the speed was never a big part of his scouting report.

If I'm worried about anything its that hamstrings can be a re-occurring issue and its weird to see a young kid dealing with them already.

His calling card was always going to be his bat.

It is about 2 years too early to even begin worrying about Maitan.

Not a big deal, but how can you compare Acuna to Trout in one breath and then begin questioning whether a 17 year old kid with that type of reputation is already a flop with the next?

I'll worry about Maitan when he's 21 and still in Rome.

The premise of this thread is so stupid I almost want to hit the lock button.

There is no premise other than I thought we needed a thread devoted to talking about Kevin Maitan, the number 1 IFA prospect since Miguel Sano.

I never said I was worried. I simply asked if anyone was worried about him.

Oh, you better believe I'm ready to start comparing Maitan to Cabrera/Chipper/Vladdy Jr. as soon as he starts hitting in Danville.

Not sure if you even read his post...

The premise of the thread is: Maitan is struggling after only 50 PAs. Should we be worried?

If you're not, why would you presume anyone else is?

It was just an honest conversation starter. I was prepared to defend Kevin. Notice I said in the OP that he didn't have a good sample size of AB in Danville.

Back to Kevin . . .

Hopefully he's in the lineup tonight for at least 1 game of the doubleheader.

Not playing in game 2.

His k% is down to 29.8% now, so that's good.

I expect he'll be in tomorrow's lineup.

Then what's there to discuss? I don't see a lot to talk about with Maitan at the moment, given he hasn't played much. Unless you want this to be the thread where you update us every time he breaks wind. I'm cool with that.
