I think he could end up being a latter-day Ford. Certainly more conservative in general and in particular on social issues than Ford.

But I think he could end up vindicating the strategic judgment made by social issue conservatives to support Trump. He could give them the conservative jurists without all the personal baggage.

On economic issues, I think he would pull back on the trade wars. This would not necessarily imply pulling back on a more muscular attempt to deal with China, Mexico and others on trade issues.

On foreign policy, I think Pence is a standard conservative. He would return us to the post-WWII consensus that both political parties have adhered to. Primacy would be given to NATO and other components of the post-WWII alliance system we have built up.

Anyways, my prediction is Pence picks Sessions to be his VP and leaves Trump out to dry. He is just waiting for the right time to stab him in the back. In fact maybe thats where this ends, what if Pence goes public saying its time for Trump to resign...... He has been the ultimate loyalist to the President to this point. We have heard Trump treats him like **** and likes to remind him who is the boss. I feel a political Red Wedding coming.

actually i do think how Trump is disposed of in the successor government is a very interesting (and not at all premature) question...could go in any number of directions

This thing about Manafartov selecting Pence is silly. I'm not denying Manafartov advocated for him. Just saying it is not something sinister.

The part about therapy classes might have some legs. But somehow I don't think a President Pence will be dealing with that in his in-box.
 
When Republicans turn on Trump Pence will be branded as Trump without the baggage. Trump just might be petty enough to take as many people down with him as he can. If Democrats win big time in the mid term Pence will be a lame duck.

Ford almost beat Carter. And a big part of why he didn't win was the recession lingering longer than expected. I wouldn't count out Pence's chances in 2020.
