Right... Simmons put up 2 5+ fWAR seasons after leaving... was one of the worst value for value trades in recent memory

I don’t think that trade ever seemed good. We took Aybar back, which was dumb, and Newcomb never did much to convince anyone except the hard-core rose-glasses crowd who said “he’s a cold-weather guy, so he’ll be a late bloomer” when it was pretty clear he couldn’t consistently throw strikes. That near-flawless game against LA was one of, like, 2 good outings for him that year. The fact that we subsequently fleeced the DBacks for Swanson doesn’t change the fact that we got nothing approaching our money’s worth for Simmons.

Completely forgot the Aybar part. Guess I mentally blocked that out. I just mean at the time the trade was actually made, it didn’t seem bad at all. Never been impressed with him since.
