The Reverse Pennant Chase

DBacks win, so we are back to the third pick. They're the only team we are competing with that won tonight.

1. Twins
2. Rays
3. Braves
4. Reds
5. A's
6. D'Backs
7. Padres

With just 2 games yet to play, we will now pick anywhere from 2nd to 6th. We are 1/2 better than the Rays, 1/2 worse than the Red, A's and D'Backs, and 1 1/2 worse than the Padres. 2nd through 6th are all still very much in play. Had the Sunday Marlins game been played, if we'd won we'd now be 4th, and if we'd lost we'd be 2nd.

We do have Blair going against the Tony's today... so the odds are more likely we loose today.

And with Verlander on Sunday I think the odds are good we are swept. Tigers control their own destiny and are going all out. Doesn't hurt to have one of the best hitters of all-time going on a tear right now either.

If Arizona, Oakland, and Cincy win today or any of them win today and we lose that team is eliminated. If SD wins at all they are out. We need TB to lose. We could lock up the 3rd pick for sure tonight.

Hopefully Blair gets rocked tonight.

Would Verlander still go on Sunday if the O's win today and lock up the WC spot?

Nevermind, they're only a 0.5 game out from Toronto. Unless Tor wins, Det loses, then Sunday is meaningless.

Not necessarily. If Det wins sunday and Tor loses Sunday then that would force a makeup game between the Indians and Tigers on Monday where if the Tigers win that they would be tied with Tor. Which would force game 163 and the winner of that faces the O's in the wild card game. I hope that scenario plays out.

There's also a scenario where Detroit, Toronto, and Seattle end up tied after the extra Monday game, forcing two extra games on Tuesday and Wednesday, THEN the WC game on Thursday.

We may have won but it was awesome seeing Blair dominate like he did. If Arizona, Oakland, and TB all hold on then we are still 3rd tomorrow with a chance to get 2nd if we lose and TB wins.

What a disaster of a September, so dumb and short-sighted to win these games. I just hope like hell there's not a couple can't miss prospects that the Braves miss out on because they were dumb enough to win games that mean nothing for this season. But it'll create momentum for 6 months away...! So f'n stupid!

I know right. I can't believe they tried to go out and win and drop 2 spots in the draft. So dumb.

Management should've given guys early paid vacations at the start of September to anyone with any semblance of talent and said see you in spring training. But instead - MOMENTUM...!
