The Reverse Pennant Chase

Oakland was up 7-4, just gave up three runs to tie it after seven. They've tanked really hard lately, lot of respect for what they've done. If they lose tonight, that pushes us to the 4th pick.
 
An amazing amount of fail in these final days. Going into Sunday's plethora of 3:10 starts:

Twins .360 (58-103)
Rays .416 (67-94)
Athletics .419 (67-93) Saturday game in progress
Atlanta .419 (67-93)
Padres .422 (68-93)
Reds .422 (68-93)
Diamonbacks .422 (68-93)
 
With 1 game left, we will end up with somewhere between the 2nd and 6th pick.

1. Twins
2. Rays
3. Braves
4. Reds
5. A's
6. D'Backs
7. Padres

If we lose today, we will either pick 3rd if the Rays lose, or 2nd if they beat the Rangers. However, if we win we will pick either 4th, 5th or 6th. We really really need to lose this last game. I've got my fingers crossed. It's worth as many as 4 draft positions and between $3MM and $4MM in slot money.
 
Yep, we are still in good position and really closed out the year about as perfectly as possible for the team going forward if we can just manage to lose today. The game that almost and still might kill us was coming back from 6-0 down.
 
Too bad they won't let Atlanta and Miami make up a useless game on Monday since it's looking more likely that Detroit and Cleveland will have to make up a game tomorrow. It could mean draft position versus Tampa, Arizona, Cincinnati, etc. for Atlanta and drafting position for Miami against Pittsburgh, Chicago Sox, Kansas City, etc.

To allow this game to be made up would be a farce, because it would be all about losing, not winning.

Games are always made up if it has playoff ramifications on it. Others are not.
 
Well looks like we will be picking 5th. Next year still has a solid group and is a lot deeper than this years. With Green, Houck, Schwartz and several others available we will be fine.
