The Trump Presidency

Why are we even negotiating with China if not having a deal is so great because we are raking in tariff money? Why is Trump literally begging China to make a deal with him if it would help China? I thought he was the President of the US and not the rest of the world? What happened to America first? Makes as much sense as China waiting for 2021 to have a Democratic President when they know Trump will be re-elected.

I cant believe you guys dont see the maliciousness of the Chinese state. We should stop dealing with them altogether. They are our enemies.
 
if you don't understand how intertwined out economies are

then you are lost

the short term fall out of just cutting ties would be catastrophic

and who knows if it we would ever bounce back and if we did, it certainly wouldn’t be a right wing dream of it

For someone who’s generally so well-versed in how markets work, this is a bit of a head-scratcher. So when the signal of continued tit-for-tat tariff escalations are enough to knock a couple of points off the DJIA, what do you think it would look like if we just decided to stop trading with them altogether?

The thing about this current trade “war” is that, while there is obvious pain and disruption on both sides, only one side has an accountability check every two years.
 
Yeah it is clear to me that Trump is clueless when it comes to trade. He consistently says China pays the taxes, and consistently claims that trade deficits are money lost. the lack of understanding of the most basic concepts make it impossible to trust him in a trade war.

China needs the US more than we need them. China is a corrupt country with a lot of IP theft. They need to be called out on that too, which Trump is doing

China does need the US for its economy, but I wouldn't say more. Without much concern for the short-term political ramifications, China can play the long game.

The big question is, who is the least trustworthy, Trump or China? I'd say it's a tie. Neither's worth the paper it would be written on.
 
Trump's panicked trade kerfuffle with China wiped out over a trillion dollars worldwide in a couple of days. That's got to be a record.

Chinas political system gives them an advantage for sure. But the US can buy goods elsewhere for higher amounts. China cant sell goods elsewhere. Thry absolutely need us more than we need them.

Why are people ignoring chinas predatory practices?
