The Trump Presidency

Quick question, thethe: does the government have the resources to remove 11M-ish undocumented immigrants?

Of course we don't but I think we should reserve the right to remove who we want to remove from our country within the guidelines of our laws. But to essentially grant amnesty to a group of people ahead of people who are trying to get here legally is absurd. how is that fair to the people who come here legally?

I love this ****ing spin

Sick bastard you are to throw out people who were brought here as children and know nothing of any other country

Truly repulsive

But this is the orange one and the Republican Party I guess

Great emotional response. Now try to answer my question.

Truly repulsive

What's repulsive to me is DACA.

Why doesn't this same program exist for aliens who entered the country LEGALLY?

Do you have any concept of the hoops foreign students are required to jump through to work in this country?

My sympathies to the Dreamers, truly, but we can and should differentiate between their plight and a ****ty, illegal, vote-pandering executive order.

This country desperately needs immigration reform.

Shame that nobody trusts our Congress to get it done.

There is no distinction on the left between 'legal' and 'illegal'. They don't believe in a legislative immigration system. They just want open borders.

Giving them permission to stay and work or study, provided that they buy and renew permits and obey the strictures of the program, doesn't seem like such a stretch, nor does it amount to amnesty, particularly considering this is a group of people who were brought to the US as minors.

As for overreach, such "deferred action" programs have been ruled constitutional. There are certain elements of DACA that are on shakier ground, but calling the whole thing "overreach" is overstating the case.

Simply as a practical matter, how is our country improved by rescinding the legal protections assigned to these people?

I'd rather American citizens getting these jobs that the 'dreamers' hold. It will hurt the economy as it takes a while for the labor demand to match up with the labor supply but in the long run the benefits of more Americans working is what is appealing to me.

I think we can solve a lot of issues in the minority communities by offering better economic options. I'm sorry but I put black people in Chicago above illegal immigrants.

Doggone identity politics.

Fair point. Like I said, what's been the holdup to comprehensive immigration reform?

Why hasn't it gotten done?

Well, I think the executive order has polarized a lot of previous legislative common ground, for starters.

We've come a long way since 2006/2007. I don't think bipartisan legislation has much of a chance now, at least with this Congress. Unfortunately, given the way partisan health care 'reform' went, I think we're ****ed.

the only reason it isn't law from congress was republican filibuster cause you know, the Black man was president

passed the house and 55 votes in the senate

i am fine helping them too

bringing this up reminds me of people who bring up some random job when people talk about raising minimum wage when it's fast food people.

"why do fast food workers deserve $15 if a hospital worker is only getting $15 an hour".

i am not against the hospital worker or whatever getting paid more too. they are most likely underpaid as well

thus it reminds me of your scenario, "well, what about these other people"

We help these people and people from other countries in what...perpetuity? Is there a limit into your mind as to what our country support?

Do you just want to overflood the supply of labor so big business can pay dirt for labor? Do you ever understand the consequences of what you think is 'right'?

That sounds like a bit of a dodge.
