The Trump Presidency

I put in $18K.

My employer buts in $10,500 of that.

I would not be happy about this change at all, UNLESS they allowed contributions to Roth IRAs to be increased (currently capped at $5,500, but you can;'t contribute if you make more than $118K - which is bull****).

I'm there with you man. I put in a lot to my 401k but I can easily change that and invest more in real estate if the comparative advantage is taken away.

I just reject the notion that this is a tax hike directed at those making less than 100k. The fact is the the average middle class working family will see little to no impact from this provision.

This is not a selfish thing at all because this proposed change negatively impacts me. The tax code is meant to encourage some behavior and discourage others. If you understand that premise you can adjust in all situations.

I am not at all comfortable - actually it makes me crazy watching people willingly lose money to shell games.

Like I said, I am about ready to cash out so it won't effect me. Personally

This is a horrible idea

It's nice to see you finally realize that increasing taxes on the successful middle class is a bad idea.

Funny seeing 57 though complaining about tax increases... when he's been begging for more revenue for years

Nothing is honest anymore. This is not intended as a direct comment in 57. Everything is partisan now. It's sad.

any impact is a tax hike from those that ran on no tax hike

like the wall, the Muslim ban, NAFTA, no cuts to Medicare-Medicaid etc etc etc

They ran on no tax hike
You in part voted them into power on that premise

But... you disagreed with with what he ran on.

So shouldn't you be happy?

There are always taxes. Never did trump say this or any of his aides.

Even with a potential tax increase because of this 401k savings provision tmit will still be offset by the much more talked about increased standard dedcution. So almost in all scenarios the person making 50k will be paying less in taxes than before.

Tax hikes, not taxes. I'm not versed enough in taxes to have an argument. I just thought it odd you were arguing Trump didn't run on no tax hikes for the middle class.

I'm not happy about the prospective changes. The increased standard dediction hurts me because my comparative advantage against non homeowners diminishes. In addition I will have to stop investing as much into my 401k.

I'm just arguing againot the point this hurts people making less than 100k. And that because it doesn't in the majority of situations.

In the end trump promised a lot but this is one thing he has not delivered on so far. It's always the middle class (those making 100k-250k) that pay for the rest of the country. Nothing changes depending on who is in office.

Trump is enjoying a rare weekend golf getaway.

You have no point because you don't understand the economics of the tax code. You actually believe this impacts the people making 50k more than 250k which is scary.

I apparently under stand the tax code well enough to see through this bamboozle

Capping 401(k) contributions while eliminating the estate tax kind of gives the game away.

Never has "amateur hour" been so apparent in the WH that I can remember. 10 months in and they still don't know how do basic duties.

According to The Atlantic, at least three families of service members killed months ago said that they have now received rush-delivered condolence letters from Donald Trump.

The families said that they are now receiving letters from Trump after he faced criticism for not calling the families of fallen service members, after claiming he had done so. Many of the letters, according to The Atlantic, were sent next-day by UPS.

Timothy Eckels’ son was killed when the USS John S. McCain collided with an oil tanker on Aug. 21, but Eckels said he didn’t receive a letter from Trump until Oct. 20 — two days into the controversy over Trump contacting the families of fallen soldiers.

“Honestly, I feel the letter is reactionary to the media storm brewing over how these things have been handled,” Eckels said.

“I’ve received letters from McCain, Mattis, and countless other officials before his. I wasn’t sure if the fact that the accident that caused Timothy’s death has still yet to officially have the cause determined played into the timing of our president’s response.”

Eckels added that the letter was “respectful” and “seemed genuine and even mentioned Timothy’s siblings.”
