The Trump Presidency

What's our Alsace? What's our Versailles Treaty?

Sanctuary cities? NAFTA?

I've seen this comparison made a great deal since election day, but it's inaccurate - both historically and sociologically.

Not all nationalism is Nazism.

Nazism really isn't the point of my post, my post contends that Germans in 1940 were sure their guy was right, pretty much everything he said was true, anyone who opposed him was wrong, and all the people in the world who hated and fought against him were the bad guys. In short their minds were already made up, and they didn't want to be confused with facts, just like I believe most Americans' minds are now, either to towards the left or the right depending on the individual.

Thi's is not isolated to America though.

The opinion shows certainly dont. Other shows I think are more fair than some would like to admit.

You may be right on certain shows. My brother in law is a yuge Fox watcher and he had the TV on The FIVE which he had recorded (does this prove my point about him) and one of the guys mentioned that (and this was right after the Repub version of the health care plan had crashed and burned) the only person smiling right now was Obama was probably walking around on a beach somewhere laughing about the whole process. We both know that isn't the norm.

Of course you do. My question is do they cover stories against the left and the right with equal tenacity, fairness, and thoroughness.

Do you believe that the mainstream news does? If you do I have some ocean front property in Arizona I want to sell ya. ;)

I understand why you'd dismiss this so quickly. Let's wait till all the facts come out. It was only two weeks ago when Susan Rice lied about not knowing anything about the unmasking.

Will you show me where she said this?

“What was produced by the intelligence community at the request of Ms. Rice were detailed spreadsheets of intercepted phone calls with unmasked Trump associates in perfectly legal conversations with individuals,” diGenova told The Daily Caller News Foundation Investigative Group Monday.

“The overheard conversations involved no illegal activity by anybody of the Trump associates, or anyone they were speaking with,” diGenova said. “In short, the only apparent illegal activity was the unmasking of the people in the calls.”

Can you explain to me how Mr. diGenova is in a position to know this?

It won't be long now until someone is able to tie all of this to Obama. Then **** is really going to hit the fan.

Since Trump has access to the entire NatSec apparatus, has the power to declassify anything, and has friends in charge of at least one Congressional intel committee, seems like it wouldn't take too long to bring this to light. So I guess we'll see.

What you seem to be alleging would require criminal action on the part of pretty much every senior national security and intelligence officer in the administration. Is this what you think happened? The former President, the FBI director, the NSA director, the CIA Director, the National Security Advisor, etc. were all dirty?

Dirty or following orders. There are still lots of facts to come out just like we areally still waiting on facts to come out on trump/Russia connection.

Dailer Caller's main source for their Susan Rice ordered spreadsheets story is a man a "former U.S. attorney" who held that job in the 80s pic.twitter.com/fjanSqAkWa

Has the report been refuted yet? If this person has said something so outlandish then I think it would be easy to come out and deny it.

I mean why would Susan Rice ever lie about something!!

Ok, fair enough. There are some questions that need answering. I'm just trying to understand exactly what you're alleging.

Where did Susan Rice lie about unmasking? And how does the cat in the Daily Caller article know what he alleges to know?

As for "Dirty or following orders," it seems that if they're "following orders" in this case, they're committing criminal offenses. This is your position?

I see your point, I'm just saying that it isn't that cut and dried. There were a plethora of contributing factors which made Hitler's rise/dominance as uncontested as it was, but those factors were unique to Germany in the late 30s and don't exist in America today.

Sure, Americans are polarized by political difference, maybe more now than ever before, but we don't possess the underlying 'it' that causes people to set aside ideology (like the Germans did) and throw facts/opposition to the wind ... yet.

Well, Susan Rice has denied that specific allegation. I understand that you don't consider her a credible source.

I'm just reacting to the fact that story is all over the less-reputable conservative news ecosphere, but the claim is not sourced at all. No "administration official," no nothing. It's sourced solely to a guy who is isn't in a position to know **** about ****. Which is probably why it's not being given much credence, rather than because there's a MSM attempt to cover it up.

I listened to Hugh Hewitt (who's a good party soldier) interview Eli Lake, the Bloomberg writer who has done the most to advance the unmasking story. Even Lake pointed out that Susan Rice's supposed denial of "unmasking" is being distorted and taken out of context.

So I'll ask you again… what did she actually say that amounted to lying about it?

Germany in the 30s was pretty ripe for a reactionary/nationalist/revanchist revolution, or even for a left-socialist one. I ultimately agree with Hawk here, but I think a case could be made that we may be in a kinda-sorta if-you-squint analogous position, if an order of magnitude lower in intensity.

Do you believe that the mainstream news does? If you do I have some ocean front property in Arizona I want to sell ya. ;)

Of course they don't, I've never said otherwise. The only point I"m trying to make and you'd laugh if I told you the real reason behind it, BOTH the left leaning and right leaning parts of the media pulls this crap, it's just that people only seem to care about the part of the media they already don't like does it. If I could get people to see and accept that ABC, NBC, and CBS are all unreliable but FOX and Talk Radio are also just as unreliable then I'd be a relatively happy guy. The problem is, people are pretty happy as long as those who are lying to them (or worse yet using the half truths) just tell them the ones they already believed. As long as they don't question that belief system the individual had when they turned on the TV or radio today then there won't be a problem.

What does "nothing of that sort occurred" mean?

JUDY WOODRUFF: I began by asking about the allegations leveled today by House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes that Trump transition officials, including the president, may have been swept up in surveillance of foreigners at the end of the Obama administration.

SUSAN RICE, Former U.S. National Security Adviser: I know nothing about this. I was surprised to see reports from Chairman Nunes on that count today.

And let’s back up and recall where we have been. The president of the United States accused his predecessor, President Obama, of wiretapping Trump Tower during the campaign. Nothing of the sort occurred, and we have heard that confirmed by the director of the FBI, who also pointed out that no president, no White House can order the surveillance of another American citizen.

OK. Next?

OK, but that plethora of contributing factors is irrelevant. Whether it's 15-20 true honest events or statements or 15-20 cow patties of nonsense the German people reached the point they reached and we're reaching the point we're reaching. When you "come to a realization" that you're falling out of an airplane without a parachute does it really matter that much why you are where you are?

The bottom line, IMO, is are you (the metaphorical one not you personally) OK with being told parts of the truth, with parts left out, leaning towards one side or the other, then you are part of the problem. And that doesn't matter whether that "less than the truth" comes from the mainstream media or the right leaning parts of the media ala Fox or talk radio.

Do you insist on being told the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth from YOUR media sources or is slightly less than that OK as long as it has your already accepted slant on it? Is cherry picked OK with you as long as it's right wing cherry picked? It's none of my business but it's still a fact. Most of the people on this very forum are perfectly OK with the cherry picking as long as it goes along with Fat Bastard from the Austin Powers movies, "everybody likes his own brand".
