without even getting into the policy aspects, it was politically touch and go until the final vote. I forget how many times votes were delayed.
With (R) controlling all of the moving parts.
They avoided seating Doug Jones to secure that vote

Wasn't this something that was to happen last January/February? Memory serves, Trump sillily expected it on his desk inauguration Day

Now that I’ve read the entire transcript of @nytmike’s Trump interview, a few observations:

1. Trump speaks a lot like a child does. Lots of focus on who likes him, who loves him, who is his friend...

his biographers all emphasize his deep desire to be loved & it comes through.

You realize this is how these things usually work right? I mean, your side had the same problem with the Stupak amendment coalition during the Obamacare vote. They eventually toed the Planned Parenthood/Obama/Pelosi line to allow abortion funding by ACA, in spite of their vows not to and the Hyde Amendment, but things were certainly touch and go for a while.

the two were both legislative endeavors, the similarities end there/

one was formed in the dark without ratings or public hearings -- the other raked over the coals for over a year

one was instituted over a period of a few years, the other thrown together and handed the populace a couple weeks before the New Year begins

The one similarity is we have no idea how either work , the mechanics, at their inception.
