The Trump Presidency

lol dowd quits.
trump can't get any good lawyer to represent him (AS POTUS!) and now he's losing not-good ones, too.
unpresidented!

Uh, there are about 100 links on google and articles on just about every news site on the internet about it. It's far from unsubstantiated.

Please tell me that you understand the difference between multiple outlets independently reporting the same story and Huffington Post, Daily KOS and Wonkette and reposting the original Washington Post story?

While I do have disdain for the orange one, I'm quite happy to watch him flounder and further isolate himself by ignoring his staff, just like he did with the half baked tariff steel announcement.

Ah, more hearsay not supported by fact. How's that tariff rollout looking? How about that IP theft tariff announced yesterday? Funny, again, how you are unable to actually separate the issues and the policy from Trump personally. There was a great discussion about the tariffs in the "Protectionism" thread. Multiple perspectives - and you know what? Magically, we didn't need to predicate our positions on the basis of feral Trump hate.

I love it when Trump has egg on his face and his people look confused. It goes well with the orange makeup.

This falls flat.

Incompetence to not read instructions, arrogance that he doesn't need them, pettiness to ignore them, etc. Isn't it really all the same?

Haha, no.

That is simply not true. You can find 35% who will take even the most illogical positions. (See Trump's approval rating.) Do you really think the CIA and the NSA and all the folks at the State Department who have been putting their careers on the line to get the message out about Russian interference/hacking/etc. are happy that their President continues to belittle their work in public while cozying up to Putin? This one instance is small by itself, but it's part of a very troubling and unpopular pattern. We have a rogue President and he likes it that way.

First of all, that approval rating isn't even accurate.

Secondly, what do the CIA and NSA have to do with it? Ever heard of State?

Thirdly, if it's such a large, debilitating pattern then you should be able to lay it out. Stop hiding behind innuendo.

The sanctions are curious. I wonder who threatened to resign. Kelly again?

Why are they curious? Where did you get the original news about Kelly threatening to resign?

I still don't think NK is a real threat. They are playing Trump the same way they have played the U.S. in the past - make a lot of sabre rattling and then try and get some money to stand down. And btw, they are not going to give up their nuclear capabilities.

"I still don't think NK is a real threat."
"They are not going to give up their nuclear capabilities"

:YDS:

Also, by the way, WHAT? We (KORUS) have extracted more concessions from North Korea over the course of the past 6 months that at any time in post-war history.

There's at least one happy man in the White House, Mike Pence. He must be smiling so much that he's added a new wrinkle to his crow's feet.

White House chief of staff John Kelly also is furious that a confidential presidential briefing became public knowledge, a White House official said, and intends to address the matter Wednesday as aides try to figure out who disclosed the warning.

"If this story is accurate, that means someone leaked the President's briefing papers. Leaking such information is a fireable offense and likely illegal," another senior White House official told CNN Wednesday.

I think we can put your "hearsay" fantasy to bed for good.

Maybe it was Dowd and he got fired.

Why is this so confusing to you?

- I questioned the original report (Washington Post).
- I also mentioned that the original report stipulated that Trump may not have read/received the briefing.
- Now, you lay out a report from CNN about John Kelly being furious about the leak, which lends credence to the WaP report but ...
a) WaPo and CNN - come on
b) Still doesn't address your wackadoodle claim that Trump intentionally ignored briefing instructions in an effort to 'show em' who's boss'

What concessions have been extracted from North Korea in the last six months? A promise? A trip to the Olympics?

They've made some conciliatory signs and put on a charm offensive, but I'm unaware of any "extracted concessions." That implies they gave up something against their will. What?

Bill Richardson sums it up pretty nicely.

Biggest concession is agreeing not to bring the removal of US forces on the peninsula to the table in any negotiation.

Key Resolve and Foal Eagle are happening in a few days, FYI.

UPDATE: 4 defense attorneys at different large law firms have been approached to join Trump's legal defense team in recent weeks. All 4 turned him down.

Between Bolton and Pompeo, make no bones about it, this is a profound shift to the hard right in the realm of foreign affairs.

I think Bolton has been tasked with pulling out of the Iran deal, and Pompeo with putting a bit of stick about in Korea.

This confirms the reports of the last several weeks. There's actually quite a bit of transparency in this administration, though perhaps not by design.

If we’re subscribing to one of the Russia-centric theories, McMaster being the “DO NOT” leaker makes the most sense given his likely position in overseeing that intelligence, the timeliness of his firing, and the timeliness of the initial rumors of his firing (which coincided with him speaking out against Russia while he was in Europe).

Could well be.
