The Trump Presidency

couldn't have said it better myself!!

Trump isn't an accident.

He's the natural outcome of the @GOP's Southern Strategy.

Since it began, Republicans have gaslit their base into believing minorities are to blame for their economic woes, all while filling their donors' pockets.

It's the biggest con job in US history

Thats a way oversimplification. The right wing propoganda centers on communisim/socialisim and the PC ideology. The strategy with blacks is that they dont vote for Republicans so everything we can do to prevent them from voting we should do.

Where can I find the republicans that bitched and moaned about executive orders sticking up for trump saying he can void amendments of the constitution with an executive order?

And where are those legal/constitutional textualists?

Yep it's a blatant overreach.

I am glad to see that both the left and right sides of the political spectrum now agree on Constitutional textualism, and I look forward to the bipartisan agreement that will take place now that so many will undoubtedly use this evolved position when discussing the 1st, 2nd, and 10th Amendments and how they apply to religious freedom, gun rights, and the limited power of the federal government.

The Trump administration, which already canceled a grant for a group that fights white supremacist terror, now appears unwilling to renew the anti-domestic terror program under which it was funded, despite recent high-profile attacks like the Pittsburgh synagogue shooting and data showing a spike in attacks on religious minorities.

The Obama administration launched the Countering Violent Extremism Grant Program in 2016 to fight domestic terrorism. Managed by the Department of Homeland Security, the program was given $10 million to distribute.

In the last days of the Obama administration, DHS awarded the money to more than two dozen groups around the country to counter violent extremism of all kinds, including right-wing extremism. Data from the Global Terrorism Database shows there was a spike in attacks on American religious organizations in 2016-17.

lol. His timing couldn't be more impeccable.

Or maybe we could agree that a president can’t cancel a constitutional amendment by executive order, and that a jurisprudence that limits its scope to parsing the intent of the framers within an extremely plastic modern context is a dumb jusrisprudence.

Well, I hope we can all agree on the first half of that.

As to the rest, I can't comprehend how anyone can view the Constitution in the context of the struggle against tyranny in pursuit of liberty that preceded it and then not interpret it in the way that most grants rights to the citizen and most denies them to the federal government.

Opinions- Wash Post - If you expect partisan anger to calm down after the midterms, think again

Oddly enough, the outcome of the midterms will incentivize Trump and the Democrats to rely on the same tactics to distinguish themselves: greater acrimony, more extreme positions and continued efforts to define themselves in stark terms. Before it’s all over, the American public is going to wish for what will seem like the temperate days of political restraint shown by the parties during the first two years of the Trump presidency.

The future is not bright.

There is plenty of opportunity for the two sides to work together toward common goals. Democrats and the President have expressed a desire for a major infrastructure package. Both have also mentioned in the past couple of weeks a desire to give the middle class the tax cut that Republicans should have already gotten done. Despite all that, I am as optimistic as the author.

If the Dems take the House look for Trump to offer to work together. Then, the Dems should call his bluff and later impeach him when he refuses to sign off on what they put forth.

trump is a liar. nothing he says or does carries any actual weight. it means nothing.
he says one thing and does another. he creates insane lies to stoke fear and tension. he is not at all interested in bringing the two sides together. thinking otherwise makes one a fool.
despite what many seem to think, it's very bad to have someone who lies so effortlessly in office. i have no clue how this doesn't bother his defenders who claim not to be supporters more. well, i have a theory and i've stated it plenty.

there is no sense in being optimistic with him. he's an awful person who frequently does and says awful things.

But he's a calculating liar and uses his lies to confuse and stir the pot on both sides. He seems to live by the axiom that there is no such thing as bad news when it's about you. All notoriety adds value to your stock.

truth

I've listened to many Trump speeches before. I had to listen to this one since he's in Macon.

Haven't listened to an entire speech from him in a long time, but my gosh this has been a brutal 45 minutes of listening to him. I keep asking myself when does it end. I'm in Europe right now, it's midnight and I'm still confused about whether to be more shocked about what's coming out of his mouth, or the loud roars that erupt from the crowd when he says these shocking things.
