The Justice Department announced on Sunday that it was replacing the legal team defending the Trump administration’s effort to place a citizenship question on the next census, a change that is all but unprecedented in legal battles as consequential as the one over the 2020 head count.

The department said in a statement that it was “shifting these matters to a new team of Civil Division lawyers going forward.” It offered no explanation for the en masse change, which came on the heels of an extraordinary week in a yearlong clash over the issue that has raised concerns about whether the department’s arguments for adding the question could be believed.

Gotta find some lawyers willing to tarnish their careers.

We have discussed the constitutional interpretation at one point and i dont agree that it is applicable to the onslaught of illegal immigration that we find today. I understand your argument but i simply dont agree. What we are seeing now is nothing like when that case was heard in the SC.

I mean, the recent hearings pretty much say it all. They’re going to try to back-fill a plausible fig-leaf legal rationale for what the court has already called out as unconstitutional and de facto racist, because the President said so. I’m sure the career DoJ lawyers involved want no part of that sham.

There was no way to perform a speedy citizenship for the vast expansion of the population. Its not even closely resemblj g our current situation. 2nd amendment still holds because as citizens we have a right to defend ourselves.
