The Trump Presidency

Something something arguing in good faith.

The new economic policies of the left will do so much more lasting damage than anything Trump has done.

We dont have to go into the horrors of socialism's history, and the death count in the millions, to acknowledge this fact.

But by all means, embrace the people who want to limit what you can say, limit your ability to protect yourself, and completely run 70% of your life all bc you get mad at a twitter account from a dude who will be dead in 5 years

I'm happy to argue in good faith. But this socialism kills people line of argument makes it difficult. Moving in a socialist direction could entail becoming more like Canada or Sweden. We can have a good substantive discussion about that. But to baldly assert socialism kills people and is bad doesnt promote good faith discussion.

Mammograms are an important part of safeguarding your health, especially if you're over 40 or have significant risk factors for breast cancer. But they can be expensive, with the average cost ranging from about $100 to $250

oh,this doesn't apply to you.
My bad

Medical bills were the biggest cause of U.S. bankruptcies, according to a CNBC report. It estimated that 2 million people were adversely affected. A popular Facebook meme said that 643,000 Americans go bankrupt each year due to medical costs. President Obama, in his 2009 State of the Union address, said that a medical bankruptcy occurred every 30 seconds. That's 1 million bankruptcies in a year.

In 2017, Debt.org found that people aged 55 and older account for 20 percent of total filings. That number has doubled since 1994. Even with assistance from Medicare, the average 65-year-old couple faces $275,000 in medical bills throughout retirement.

Now please show your cards.

Is there anything that would ease this ?

In this light, cradle to grave Social Medicine wins the day
I would love to see your alternative

an awfully strange way for "the horrors of socialism's history, and the death count in the millions,"

affordable drugs, regular care and eased payments .

That average of $275,000 buys groceries and other consumables that keep the engines of capitalism churning.
we are not in an either or world

24 hours ago, in front of a teleprompter, Trump said this:

"Now is the time to set destructive partisanship aside, so destructive, and find the courage to answer hatred with unity, devotion, and love."

Tonight on Twitter, he said this:

Beto (phony name to indicate Hispanic heritage) O’Rourke, who is embarrassed by my last visit to the Great State of Texas, where I trounced him, and is now even more embarrassed by polling at 1% in the Democrat Primary, should respect the victims & law enforcement - & be quiet!

Who voted for this jerk and turned their nose up at the opportunity to not have him in the White House
I really wonder how close Preet Bhrara was
circa early winter 2017 ???

and more on "socialism"

Excerpt from this EcoWatch story:

The ice near Alaska’s shores has melted away entirely, leaving the nearest ice shelf nearly 150 miles away, according to new satellite data from the National Weather Service, as The Independent reported.

The historic Alaskan summer that saw record high temperatures, warmer seas, and a once in a lifetime heat wave, has caused the sea ice to vanish.

The phenomenon does not mean that the ice won’t return. It should return in the fall as the Arcticmoves away from the sun and the temperatures start to drop again. Alaska has seen a complete ice melt before, as recently as two years ago, but it has never vanished this early.

“It’s cleared earlier than it has in any other year,” said Rick Thoman, a climate specialist at the Alaska Center for Climate Assessment and Policy, as Mashable reported.

The melting is not just confined to Alaska. The Arctic ice around Greenland and Siberia has also seen record melting due to various heat waves, record temperatures between May and July and a rash of wildfires burning near the Arctic. This is all commensurate with the global climate crisis.

“This fits in exactly with our expectations of long-term climate change,” said Zack Labe, a climate scientist and Ph.D. candidate at the University of California Irvine, to Vice’s Motherboard..

My guess is Ben Shapiro or AG Conservative has a canned response
so yeah, put it up

There are good faith conservative proposals for the problems before us. Back in 2009 (in the midst of the healthcare reform drive), Martin Feldstein put forth an alternative that I thought made a lot of sense. It wasn't about winning cheap political points. It was a carefully thought out conservative alternative to a real problem. For those interested in Feldstein's proposal:

So voting in the election doesn't matter if you live in a state that is solid blue or red? Interesting thought process.

Personally I think it's an easy chicken **** way of getting out of your civic duty. I say this as someone who's voted in every election since I moved into a house, because I care about where I live and yeah my vote didn't effect the 2016 election, I fully intend to push the 2020 primary if I can but I will vote for someone who may not win.

There are still all of the other elections on the ballot, but if it ends up being Trump vs Sanders and the libertarians nominate some idiot, I’m going to be hard pressed to make getting to the polling station and standing in line a priority.

Somehow he managed to do it without recourse to xenophobic and racist language. It's actually not difficult at all. Unless you are the kind of person who pushes a racist lie like birtherism. Then I suppose it is a challenge. Yes, Trump seems challenged in this regard.

So is racism allowed if you use vague enough language? I'm just trying to understand the rules here.

Please walk me through the mental gymnastics it takes to condemn the big orange man for protecting our border and protect a guy like Clinton who called for the same thing, minus a wall. The propaganda has people losing their minds over things they probably agreed with in the past. But because it's Trump saying it, all the sudden it's racist.

i'm not qualified to help you with mental gymnastics...on that you will have to get by on your own

It's amazing how often I find myself arguing with friends who hate Trump, but can't explain coherently why.

Stop hanging around friends who are incoherent.

It isn't that difficult to explain why Trump is awful and why people want to see him our of office asap.
