So sturg is going to vote for Trump if Sanders or Warren gets the nomination because “socialism kills people.”
So let’s just say that one of those two gets elected in 2020. Let’s further stipulate that the Senate goes Democratic, so they’ll have at least a couple of years to enact a legislative agenda. Let’s assume they get a big chunk of their policy wishlist: some form of universal single-payer healthcare, student loan debt forgiveness, free public college tuition, family leave, early childhood education, etc.
Ok, who’s gonna die? Certainly, fewer of those who are currently dying from preventable illness because of lack of access to care or needed medication. Where is the socialist death toll going to come from?
It's a wonder why I'll even bother responding, but here goes.
There may not be immediate consequences in 4 years.. but the lasting effects of completely wrecking our economy and giving the state more and more control has shown time and time again to be disastrous.
People die when the economy goes to ****.
There has long been substantial evidence linking job loss to shorter lives and more health-related problems. A 2009 study on the impact of the 1980s oil crisis and subsequent recession in Pennsylvania, published by economists Daniel Sullivan and Till von Wachter in the Quarterly Journal of Economics, found that in the year after men lost their jobs in mass layoffs, their chances of dying doubled. And though the heightened risk tapered off over the years, it was still significantly higher 20 years later. If such trends were sustained indefinitely, the authors wrote, it would mean a loss in life expectancy of 1–1.5 years for a worker displaced at age 40.
People lose their jobs when you get your precious minimum wage increase. I noticed there was no commentary on this from the WSJ in the other thread. Bernie can't pay his own people $15 an hour, but demands the biggest employers in the world do as well. As well as small businesses alike.
So businesses close. People lose their jobs. The economy goes to ****. More people need the government to help them.
The government can't pay for any of this **** so they print and print and borrow and print some more. The only thing keeping our economy afloat is the value of the dollar. But the Sanders policies would more than double our debt over night. An easy example off top of mind is the inflation of Brazil in the early 90's... getting as high 80% per month, and the death rate there was at all time highs.
People tend to die when they can't eat.
Or now we have M4A, but the data is very clear on this - US suburban hospitals can't survive on M4A pay rates. They would close down. So one of two things has to happen... doctors have to be paid less (resulting in fewer high quality doctors) or more expensive care needs to be de-prioritized.
How about pharma investment in major drugs? Gilead has cured Hep C and nearly cured HIV... they invested billions in research to get us there... they take their profits and - yes, pay their shareholders - but also invest in new therapy... currently working on trying to cure Hep B and NASH. If Warren and Sanders have their way, they can't have any profits. Say goodbye to amazing new innovative cures.
Our current debt is at $70K per US household... it's not slowing down... but as the socialists want to take more and more control over the economy by stealing more and more from future generations, where is the path out for folks who have not yet been born?
What about all the people who can no longer protect themselves getting raped or killed because we need to disarm the citizenry?
Sen Warren wants to have the government track every single asset from every single American... I can't imagine where that could go wrong...
Finally, you can dismiss and mock the warning story from our neighbors down south. But Sen Sanders' proposal are a direct match of those of Cuba and Venezuela. And he even praised them this very decade saying America would be better if we were more like them.
You can't just shoe those examples away bc it makes your preferred policies look like garbage. It's disarming the citizens. It's state controlled energy. It's state controlled education. It's state controlled health care. It forces people to give up their liberty in favor of the state. If it was such a great idea, it wouldn't need to be forced on us
The reality is that socialism has led to the deaths of 100 million people at least. You can deny this or scoff at it, or say it can't happen here... but that is the reality. It's an economic system that forces people to give up their liberty to the state, and if they don't - they are punished. And when they are so hungry that they try to revolt, they are killed. Pardon me if I don't want to put my blind faith that our government - the one that assassinated a US citizen this decade. Why is that every policy advocated from the left is either a) banning or censoring something, or b) taking control of something.
Ultimately - if any economy goes to **** - there are serious life-altering consequences. I firmly believe the policies that Warren and Sanders want would guarantee this to happen. And that's the best case scenario.
is this the part where i type YMMV?
