The Trump Presidency

The puerile behavior in politics right now is sickening. Last night was the State of the Union address. A speech that's supposed to be so important that the Founders deemed it necessary to mandate it be done. It's supposed to be where the President can address the entire nation, address hopes and fears, and lay out new visions for the future of the country. Instead of talking about any of that, we're talking about snubbed handshakes and ripping a few sheets of paper in half.

We've devolved to the point of an unending parade of utterly pointless gestures. It's like watching a baseball game where the game has ground to a halt because the players are too busy trash talking to actually play the game.

Yeah I don't see the purpose behind what Pelosi did. All it stands to do is rile up Trump's base and make Dems look petty and childish. Trump acting the way he does is to be expected at this point, so why play into it? Like to the old saying goes: Never wrestle with a pig in the mud. You both end up getting dirty but the pig enjoys it.

I watched the firsf 3/4 of the speech.

It was tough to watch knowing must of his statistics were made up and many were outright lies.

Seriously, I don't agree with what Pelosi did, but Trump used the SOTU last night as a political rally propaganda speech. Sickening.

Let's be outraged about Pelosi, the same way everyone in both parties was outraged when Joe Wilson shouted YOU LIE in the SOTU when Obama was up there... oh wait... I don't recall the right getting outraged I remember Wilson actually becoming an icon in the right circles and it actually boost his fundraising.

The Dems should have simply yelled in unison you lie everytime he lied. I'm tired of double standards. Dems are expected to play by the nice guy rules while Trump continues childish destructive behavior and continuously pisses on tradition and respectability. His own party is too chicken**** to reel him in, and the Dems have to keep governing in good faith with the man that is a serial liar.

I mean get that, but it isn't a good political strategy. Trump gets away with it because much of his base agrees with everything he says and Trump is "one of them." The ones that don't agree with what he says, simply condone it because they are conservatives that don't want a Dem prez.

The Dems are not gonna win a game of mudslinging. They honestly shot their wad too soon on this impeachment. I know that's with the benefit of hindsight, but keeping the threat impeachment alive during campaign season only served to the benefit of the Dems.

I honestly don’t care about the theatrics anymore—from Trump or Pelosi. It’s all distraction.

I wish Pelosi et al would do something constructive, like run a nationwide ad campaign focusing on, say, Trump just baldly lying about coverage for pre-existing conditions. That would be a zillion times more useful than this junior high lunchroom bull****. Anyone who is persuadable needs to understand why the parties are different. The sad truth is that, in so many important ways, they’re not particularly different. So when you allow the guy to just straight-up lie about an actual point where they diverge, you’re just ceding valuable ground to him.

So, rip his speech up. Whatever. But when you’re asked about it, at least say that it was because he lied about support for pre-existing condition coverage. That members of your caucus lost their seats in the effort to pass the ACA, that Rs fought tooth and nail to repeal it, that Trump ordered his DOJ to support the ongoing legal effort to overturn it, and you’re not going to stand idly by while he brazenly says the opposite. This is a popular measure that is her ****ing signature accomplishment, for chrissake. And she’s just letting him adopt its most popular provision and draw a completely phony contrast.

Every second spent talking about this is one less minute spent talking about the economy or whatever other stuff Trump was trying to sell in the SOTU.

Republicans lowered the bar, they cant hold Democrats to a standard they refuse to hold the President to. They will try. Like I said, respond to every outrage with "Republicans are more upset with Nancy Pelosi for tearing a piece of paper than they are at the President for attempting to cheat in the upcoming election, they seem to have high moral standards and are extremely quick to convict when the person has a D next to the their name, where was that sense of outrage and passion for upholding rule of law during the trial?"

Every Democrat talking head on mainstream TV not talking about the various corruption of IMPOTUS is doing a disservice to their party. I dont care what the context is. Lets just randomly talk about his Dad sending 3 million dollars into his Casino to get around financing regulations. Is there ever a bad time to talk about Kushner's sweetheart 99 year lease money up front of the worst real estate investment in history to a foreign owned company.

When the President takes the time to announce/give the Presidential Medal of Freedom to a conspiracy theory toting shock jock, you can't be shocked about lack of decorum.

Republicans can't hold Democrats to any standard. Democrats don't care what Republicans think. The reverse is also true. You can't expect one party to hold the other accountable. Democrats need to hold Democrats accountable and Republicans need to hold Republicans accountable. Right now, no one is holding their party accountable. That's a problem.
