The Wall

Another migrant child has died while in U.S. custody. BuzzFeed News reports that the 16-year-old boy, whose name has not yet been released, had been hospitalized after becoming “noticeably ill” just one day after being sent to a Health and Human Services-contracted facility operated by a company that has been mired in scandal for the past few months. He was released and returned to the Southwest Key facility in Brownsville, Texas, only to have his condition worsen the next day.

This has always been the argument to end illegal immigration. The left just wants voters and representation in the house.

Or we should make immigrating legally a lot easier.

Or we should punish people who knowingly hire illegal immigrants. Like you know, our commander in chief.

Listened to a Malcolm Gladwell podcast a year or so back explaining the origins of our immigration policies concerning the southern border
The history is quite different than one would think.

Worth the 30 minute listen

I'd open up legal immigration numbers to a much higher cap as long as it was merit based.

And I would absolutely punish anyone that hires illegals.

There's no merit based need. We need people to do the ****ty work. We need people to do the jobs for minimum wage that entitled second and later gen americans won't do. Like say farmers.

Those jobs will be automated in 10 years.

Some of them, in some sectors, like agriculture, sure. Although perhaps 10 years is a tad aggressive. But there are still a lot of jobs heavily populated by undocumented workers where there’s no automated replacement on the horizon. Where I live there isn’t a lot of ag but there are heavy concentrations of immigrant labor in landscaping, construction, home health care, etc., and back-of-house food service and hospitality jobs. You’re suggesting that the bulk of those jobs will be automated in 10 years?

Construction jobs won't but as the demand for labor would increase so would wages and that would draw non-illegal immigrants to those fields as it would in all fields.

We are seeing what lack of supply is doing for service jobs and higher paying jobs currently with wage growth. The same would happen in all other industries.

Big business interest like Koch brothers convince us that we need Illegals/low skilled immigrants and its not the case. We have plenty of poor people in this country that would do well in these fields.

The poor won’t do those jobs though.
