The game changer was the change in leadership at the top. We finally had a great ground game.
We don't win with McDaniel running the show. Lara did great.
Yes, that is partially Trump's fault for staying with McDaniel this long.
I don't think it mattered that much. With the search volume of things like "Who's running for president" "Did Joe Biden drop out" etc. Trump I think benefitted from the non-active voter push. People who thought "we've had a democrat, let's spice it up" kind of ****.
I think as well a chunk of people were probably pissed off that there wasn't a democratic party primary. I think had Joe Biden said in Jan 2023 "I feel as if doing this job is too hard on an old man, I'm not going to run for re-election and focus all my attention on running the country" and we had a proper primary, we could have had a different election. One debate between Trump and Kamala helped Trump as did only 1 debate between Vance and Walz, that's not a good point for the dems to make up ground on an already tough thing (winning an incumbent presidency in the modern era)
Basically the dems never replaced their "Get Trump out of office" momentum of 2020 and were hoping that the same energy would be brought in, and didn't have a significant platform. Dems need to find their next pool of candidates and get them out right away talking about labor. That's where the battles are being won and lost. If you can get back to what made the dems strong (blue union votes) then you can reclaim a healthy dose of power. Trump's cross appeal into the blue collar midwest types, hurts the Democrats. They need to bring that vote back into their fold and basically need to get similar quality of voices talking about labor. Trump doesn't care about the employees, he cares about "jobs" as a concept. Jobs means product made etc. If the dems can convey that message they're the party of the worker, then they can reclaim a block that's slipping. But they need to make a concerted effort for that. Not just throw out a few platitudes while trying to appease everyone. If one thing is blatantly clear is that by appeasing everyone you appease no one.
The economy decided the election and Kamala had nothing to speak to to either defend the current admin's position or to talk about how she will deal with the economy. Even if it wouldn't have mattered, having a talking point like Trump with his Tariffs is something to do. Everyone knows those Tariff talks are bluster.
Personally I don't really care about the movement of Trump, the bigger red flag is the movement of Senators and House and Governors.
