Things They Say

Q: If you win in November, can you commit to prioritizing legislation to make child care affordable? And if so, what specific piece of legislation will you advance?

Trump: Well, I would do that. And we’re sitting down – you know, I was somebody – we had – Sen. Marco Rubio and my daughter Ivanka were so impactful on that issue. It’s a very important issue.

But I think when you talk about the kind of numbers that I’m talking about, that – because, look, child care is child care. It’s – couldn’t – you know, it’s something – you have to have it. In this country, you have to have it.

But when you talk about those numbers compared to the kind of numbers that I’m talking about by taxing foreign nations at levels that they’re not used to, but they’ll get used to it very quickly – and it’s not going to stop them from doing business with us but they’ll have a very substantial tax when they send product into our country.

Those numbers are so much bigger than any numbers that we’re talking about, including child care. That – it’s going to take care – we’re going to have – I – I look forward to having no deficits within a fairly short period of time, coupled with the reductions that I told you about on waste and fraud and all of the other things that are going on in our country.

Because I have to say with child care – I want to stay with child care – but those numbers are small relative to the kind of economic numbers that I’m talking about, including growth, but growth also headed up by what the plan is that I just – that I just told you about.

We’re going to be taking in trillions of dollars. And as much as child care is talked about as being expensive, it’s, relatively speaking, not very expensive compared to the kind of numbers we’ll be taking in.

We’re going to make this into an incredible country that can afford to take care of its people, and then we’ll worry about the rest of the world. Let’s help other people, but we’re going to take care of our country first. This is about America first, it’s about Make America Great Again. We have to do it because right now we’re a failing nation. So we’ll take care of it. Thank you. Very good question.

The people who think this guy is a world class debater are hilarious. He's incoherent on most topics

But my favorite (i.e. least favorite) thing about the Trump phenomenon is that the crazy leftists like Bernie Samders have been calling foe state funded childcare for years, and the "conservative" party is the most likely party to deliver it

Not sure why government has a role in child care.

Child care is expensive because of how much red tape and payroll you have to run in order to operate at a minimum acceptable levels. And no one wants to send their kids to the minimum

Deregulation has always been a pillar of trumps economic agenda. We saw that first hand in term 1.

We do want some regulation of childcare. The devil is always in the details.

Or a tangentially related topic, there has been a lot of investment into elder care facilities by private equity. Various studies have shown disastrous outcomes (in terms of health and mortality) at facilities owned by private equity firms.

Can you be pro life and not support measures to help children being taken care of?

Of course.

Like nscapi said in response to childcare regulation, the devil is in the details. Why would being against abortion mean you have to blindly sign up for any and all government funded programs aimed at childcare, regardless of cost, effectiveness, constitutionality, etc.?

Not blindly but I suspect sturg isn’t in favor of any support for this children who are born to parents that can’t support them adequately. That’s where the pro life argument fails miserably.

Liz Cheney Says Conservatives May Need New Political Party ???

Shocker! Who could've seen that coming?

“Whether it’s organizing a new party — look, it’s hard for me to see how the Republican Party, given what it has done, can make the argument convincingly or credibly that people ought to vote for Republican candidates until it really recognizes what it’s done,” Cheney said, as quoted in a report by The New York Times.

“There is certainly going to be a big shift, I think, in how our politics work,” she continued. “I don’t know exactly what that will look like.”

Everything she says sounds like the filler college students put in their term papers when they get to the end and realize they’re 50 words short of the assigned word count.
