Things They Say

Joe Johns: You said there was no need to collude with Russia but there have been so many indictments and contacts with Russians. How do you balance that?

Sarah Sanders: It's real simple to me. The President far and away was the better candidate. He had a better message and he outworked Hillary Clinton. That's why he's President. He didn't need to, nor did he, collude with the Russians. Pretty simple.

“This is a moment of great peril for our democracy. Our country is deeply divided. Our national discourse has become coarse, indeed, poisonous. Disunity and dysfunction have paralyzed Congress.

And while our attention is focused inward, the world spins on, new authoritarian regimes are born, old rivals spread their pernicious ideologies, and the space for freedom-loving peoples begins violently to contract. At last week’s Munich Security Conference, the prevailing sentiment among our closest allies is that the United States can no longer be counted on to champion liberal democracy or defend the world order we built.

For the past two years, we have examined Russia’s interference in the 2016 election and its attempts to influence the 2018 midterms. Moscow’s effort to undermine our democracy was spectacularly successful in inflaming racial, ethnic and other divides in our society and turning American against American.
But the attack on our democracy had its limits. Russian President Vladimir Putin could not lead us to distrust our own intelligence agencies or the FBI. He could not cause us to view our own free press as an enemy of the people. He could not undermine the independence of the Justice Department or denigrate judges. Only we could do that to ourselves. Although many forces have contributed to the decline in public confidence in our institutions, one force stands out as an accelerant, like gas on a fire. And try as some of us might to avoid invoking the arsonist’s name, we must say it.

I speak, of course, of our president, Donald Trump.”

Congressman Adam Schiff

“If anyone in Trump world is breathing easy right now, I’d say they are very foolish,” said Shanlon Wu, a defense lawyer who previously represented Rick Gates.

“My daughter has created millions of jobs. I don’t know if anyone knows that, but she’s created millions of jobs.”

McConnell, with a straight face: "Now that an incident of very real voter fraud has become national news and the Republican candidate seems — seems — to have benefited, these long-standing Democratic talking points have been really quiet."

somehow these fools continue to find ways to put me in a state of disbelief.

That’s amazing...and horrifically dishonest, because what happened in NC was not voter fraud (committed by voters) it was election fraud (committed by a campaign). Now, I might concede the point that no one from either party probably wants people turning over rocks in this sphere, but somehow conflating it with the R “voter fraud” talking point is ludicrous.

We tried to get the guns. Coming for the hamburgers is just a tactical recalibration.

i guess the CPAC organizers requested red meat and Gorka took them literally

otoh there is probably a serious case to be made that socialism ruins a good hamburger

dare i say the right has lost its mind...don't want to infringe on any copyrights
