Things They Say

Right. I think that’s the issue here. The massive asymmetry that can be deployed (politically, judicially, culturally) to define “mine” and “yours” leads to the exploited being considered by some to be the exploiters.

And it is worth keeping in mind with respect to CEO pay (and pay for other senior management) that it isn't just an issue of them versus regular workers but them versus shareholders. The principal-agent problem is a pretty pervasive thing when it comes to corporate governance. A lot of big companies develop a mafia-like group of insiders who make decisions mostly on the basis of their private self-interest.

What about executives who feel entitled to take bonuses when their companies are in bankruptcy? Or CEOs who feel entitled to pay themselves 300X their average worker’s pay?

.

What about them? That's the company's decision.

I consulted a firm that went through a bankruptcy and their CEO took a $2M bonus to see it through.

I asked why that was justified, and the CFO told me that because if they didnt pay those bonuses, nobody would see it through the liquidation process and wind down.

Just curious here, and not knowing anything about the circumstances of the company, the CEO, the bankruptcy, etc., but how much of the reasons for bankruptcy would you place (objectively speaking) on the CEO him/herself?

Nobody would? That’s an odd take with even a modicum of scrutiny.

As for the entitlement valuation of labor within a company, why are you ok with that consensus decision but not a consensus decision about same among a larger group, i.e. elected officials?

Kris Kobach, the former Kansas secretary of state who made a national name for himself peddling conspiracies about voter fraud, has presented the White House with a list of demands to become President Donald Trump’s “immigration czar,” according to a report Monday by The New York Times.

The outlet, citing multiple people familiar with Kobach’s list, said his conditions include 24-hour access to a government jet, walk-in privileges with the president, a staff of seven people, and a security detail, should it be deemed necessary.

Kobach has also said he wants to be paid the highest salary for White House senior staff members ($179,700 in 2018, according to annual compensation documents) and is asking that Trump nominate him to be the next secretary of homeland security by November.

He also wants to be able to take weekends off to go home to Kansas.

This is what Mantle said to Fischer:
