So the kid is a fraud, and the clock that he 'built' was really just an old clock That he took the cover off of. He didn't modify or assemble anything.

You were the one taking about the creativity and innovation were you not? This kid created nothing and innovated nothing.

The reaction was to harsh but that doesn't give the kid or everyone sticking up for him a pass in claiming he built this.

Maybe with all that money he can take some classes and actually learn how to build a circuit board of a clock for himself instead of ripping one out of an existing clock to use for an assignment/his 15 minutes.

I know you aren't. Bad choice of words.

But if they are "shake down artists", perhaps the whole thing was orchestrated from the start. And if so, the parents are the real geniuses here and they are indeed worthy of the term "artists". For what is more American than devising a way to scam money from "the system"?
