I went to a wedding in Richmond VA. We drove through a neighborhood full of poor black people on our way to the wedding site...a beautiful location along the river a few blocks away with a confederate monument as its centerpiece. All the rednecks in attendance acted as if this was perfectly acceptable.
It was surreal to those of us that live in the 21st century. Almost as if the South refuses to unpause life from the Jim Crow days.
