THURSDAY MINORS FINAL 8/24 ... Touki follows his best outing

For the year coming into this game he was hitting .266 with an OPS of .749, I think it's safe to say not particularly close. A hot streak in 140ish ABs at AA doesn't overshadow his subpar hitting at high A in just over 300 ABs, or his average scouting grades. The most positive thing to me with him is hearing that his defense seems solid at 3B this year, gives him a decent shot to stick if he can make enough contact (which I have serious doubts about).

Just watched him over the last four games and I feel much better about Riley's prospects. He is very comfortable at the plate, drawing walks and going oppo for one of his doubles in the series. But what I really like was his comfort zone on defense. He most notably made a great play on a slow chopper down the baseline, making a dead-on throw on the move as he went into foul territory. It was a play we've seen Chipper make dozens of times.

people need to remember that Riley can even celebrate his good games with a cold one until next April. I am very pleased with what he is doing. I sort of wrote him off this year and he has 18 homers with a .756 OPS.. and btw.. of his 447 at bats this year. 447 have been against pitchers older than him.

but I agree, not sniffing the top 100 yet..

He's been on an innings limit anyway since coming back from the DL. He was called up to the major leagues due to this but never pitched...and stuff like this shows me there is a disconnect between Brian and the FO. One thinks play the kids the other thinks wins.

Well he did pitch in the majors, but not well.

Is he the next Wes Helms?

That sounds like the most realistic comparison to me. Can't get too excited about Riley personally.

I saw Helms play in the minors and he looked like a decent--but not premier--prospect. Carved out a decent career, but he was pretty much a back-up.

My complete speculation is that since Riley is a 2nd half player he was put in MS to do it at the AA level to increase his trade value for the offseason. I think he'll have fits of beast mode and times of struggle over the next 2-3 years

Helms was a valuable player, but we need at least one guy, someone, to become more than that to play 3B for us. I always liked Helms, but never saw him as the answer to any problem. Just a good team player to have on your bench.

He was kind of lukewarm on Albies. John Hart too from a recent interview.

Don't get that at all. He said he needs work but acknowledges that Albies has a lot of talent. Our dumbass FO is stupid of they trade him or even think of it.

Good to see Fried with a good outing at AAA. I feel like we can pretty much toss out his AA performance as I don't think that was an accurate gauge of his talent due to the blister problem. It might be in the pen but I think he has a bright future still.

Fine by me. I think the Klobster/Reitsma era gave me PTSD. If we can develop and trade a new young closer every year we could keep the farm well stocked.

It was not his blister problem that caused this down year. He hurt his back in his first start at AA, and instead of going on the DL, he just got his next start pushed back, and observers of the Southern League said he looked injured due to his back all year.

well anyways, he wasn't pitching at 100%. I don't doubt his ability but at this point I doubt his ability to stay healthy.
