THURSDAY MINORS REPORT 6/21/18: 1st Day of Summer; two walkoff wins

Finally, the first time Wright put together 2 straight back to back good outings...as it wasn't that he wasn't putting up good outings at all, it was he'd put up a good outing, then a mediocre one (or worse in a lot of cases) instead of backing it up.

I still believe Wright is gonna be our best starter in a year, that’s why I wouldnt waste our resources on a SP.

I agree with this, and I’m still bullish on Gohara’s future as well

I just want one of the many high-potential guys to break full ace; don’t really care which one, as the rest should fill out the rotation capably.

100%. We need just one of these guys to be a true #1. I know they are very rare. It doesn’t matter which one.

His work ethic has been questioned in the past and his current body type makes me skeptical if he wants it bad enough. Let's hope he can get back on track.

I am not bullish on Gohara. He would be my preference for trading away a premium pitching prospect. My guess is he would be the guy teams would least interested in taking back.

I was totally fine with him being used in a super relief role. If he'd actually pitched decently it might have encouraged the team to use him in more important spots in that role.

Wonder if Allard is back in our top 10 list.

I don't think so. sometimes I look at pitchers who had similar minor league statistics. not only have basically none of those guys worked out as starters, but they all had better stuff (or at least throw/threw much harder).

He's obviously going to get a shot at some point this year.

We will know pretty quickly if he's legit once we have statcast data on his stuff. It's possible he has plus or better movement on that 90 mph fastball that allows it to play up enough to be successful.

More likely he's one of those guys with enough stuff to succeed at AAA due to pitchability, but the lack of pure stuff will get exposed by MLB hitters.

It will be interesting to find out though.

That’s why I would rather him stay in AAA and then be traded. As opposed to getting tourched in the majors and his stock dropping. He is “the” big name pitcher to be traded if we trade one. He’s MLB ready now and still very young. Maybe he pans out, but I just don’t see him being anything more than a #4/5 type. I really hope I’m wrong.
